Video and Audio files

For quite some time now I have been visiting this website to watch Joy Division related material. Joy Division is my favorite band, and most certainly the band which has had the largest impact on me and my life. Watching the videos of Atmosphere and Love Will Tear Us Apart became something of an everyday ritual. I also deeply appreciated the videos of Joy Division live; I would never been able to actually see Ian Curtis (or the other lads) in motion if not for those video-files. Photographs are great and all, but they could not accurately portray the way Curtis danced.

I now return from quite a long vacation, only to discover all those files gone. Please forgive my ignorance if this matter has been discussed before, as I did not frequent these boards. But what happened? Where are the files? Are they coming back, or gone forever?

I must add that this is one of the best, and most informative websites I have ever had the pleasure to "click myself into".

All the best, Stig B. Løken (Devout Norwegian JD/NO fan)

Hi Stig,

Unfortunately the multimedia files had to be removed because the website moved from a server to another, and the new one doesn't have as much space commodity. Also, there always was a copyright concern with these and I am more at ease to see the website running without the files for that reason.

Thank you for your understanding and also for your nice comments.

Best regards,

Seb.

yeah...the files were pretty damn good...

but alas, they had to go bye-bye...maybe someday, we can get them back...like if I get rich, and can afford to hook Nic and Seb up!!!

but if you're counting on that, well....

maybe you don't have to have all of the old video and music files up at once, just a few at a time, so that they aren't completely gone. i know what you mean about the videos, NOOL had one of the most comprehensive collections i've ever seen on the net, just about everything i think existed. so, thanks for the video files NOOL, i think the media was what made me real fan, since i had only been a fan since the crystal single came out last year.:D

Our vision of the perfect New Order website included a media section filled with all the videos. Originally, we also wanted to put onlike MP3s and video excerpts linked from the Tours & Concerts section for dozens of shows we have, mainly from bootlegs. I thought this could be a great historical database for this band.

We also wanted audio and, if they existed, video files to EVERY item listed in the discography.

But like I said, for technical reasons and copyright reasons, and also because this is too ambitious for people who are not putting all their time in this, we dropped these ideas.

It's too bad the official websites didn't do something similar.

did you get actual requests from the NO camp to stop posting the files? just curious, cuz i agree. the official NO people at london should be doing what this site does, instead of that get ready site that is quite boring and fustrating to go through. all design and no substance...

No we didn't.

I have a restriction of 1 Gb of upload per month with my internet provider, uploading the media files would take a lot of these.

I will, if I have time, work those files and post snippets of the media files, 30 secs clips.

We think the main issue of this site is not the media files, so we will put some back, but we are doing everything we can to help the band.

Since the Recycle project is back on track, let's wait and see.
