You're wrong. New order live on the same street with The Stone Roses and the Happy Mondays. The synthpop bands ie. Depeche mode, Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys live two streets away near the plains where rainbows are often visible.

I lived in Columbus, OH which supposedly has the 2nd highest gay population in the United States. I remember all the gay people I knew there absolutely loved New Order. I think its safe to say that if you go to a gay club you'll hear a lot of dancey techno stuff......which New Order helped shape the sound of. I have nothing against gay people (although making fun of them is funny), but I think anyone with a reasonable mind will admit that New Order does have a decent number of gay fans, not saying that's a bad thing.

Dance music is often associated with gays in North America, but how is it perceived in the UK? Also, how is New Order being perceived in the UK?

House and techno have dominated (the cooler) clubs since 1988, and despite other genres appearing (Drum and Bass, Breakbeat, Dubstep, Bassline etc), electronic dance music with a 4/4 beat still dominates.

You see, when you live on a wet, cold, joyless little island run by pompous, incompetent baffoons, where media wankers pump out endless celebrity-dominated tat, and where work dominates your life...getting off your head every weekend to a soundtrack of electronic beats isn't seen as some gay subcultural practice, it's seen as away of life.
