what would he say? has anyone ever wondered what ian would think of New order? if just observed NO from wherever he is, what would he say? what would he think about barney taking over the vocals...or any of the member's singing in their respective side projects...anything at all.

Mmmn. difficult one this, obviously. 
To be brief, I think he would have liked the Movement transition even though quite a few NO fans see that as one of their weaker spots. The PC&L period he would have buzzed along to and probably really enjoyed Low Life. I would think by Brotherhood period he would have started to tune out and I'm not sure if Technique would have inspired him or not. Hmmmn.
As far as Barney singing, I think he would have sacked him and kept him on guitar, introduced Gillian on keyboards, kept Hooky and Morris but brought in a lead vocalist.
Who? Not sure. But no Barney.
Maybe that chap out of Killing Joke, now what was his name?
I think he would enjoy Here to Stay but I think he would be laughing at his mates and their comeback.

Ian would just write proper lyrics and... sing them! The music would be the same. Remember, it was he who introduced the other three to Kraftwerk. So in the end, he would just say: " I love this band!"
actually, he would just say..."what the hell do you call that dance????" Then go have a smoke...pop on his walkman and listen to Iggy....
funny, I just started a topic about something quite similar, what would Joy Division be in the 2000's if Ian would still be alive.
