Baddest New Order mix ever/Best New Order mix ever ...

I don't know if this post already exists, but hey ... what the heck. With a so called 'remix' I mean that somebody else has worked on the original product.

My most irritating New Order 'remix' EVER is the BLT-remix from Armand van Helden (yes, he's living in the same country as me and that's pretty embarrassing...) which appears on the (Rest Of) New Order from 1995. I think it sucks hell and is as boring as watching paint dry.

But the best 'remix' for me is the Night Tripper Mix of Spooky done by Tony Garcia which appears on the American (Warner Brothers) CD-single of Spooky and on the London Records boxed-single of 1963-95. I think that Spooky-remix is very Kraftwerk-ish, which to my mind, isn't a bad thing really ...

Although I like the 90's mixes, I'm more 'into' the 80's remixes of New Order which, ofcourse, stay pretty close to originals. You can't always say that of the later ones. By the way: I hate remixes which doesn't compliment the original song and make it totally different.

In this category, I'd have to say Arthur Bakers 1963 '95 remix. Simply because, it doesn't just add a hooky bass line, but it strangely fits with the republic era sound.

Shame of the Nation for me! Class, and well overdue a re-release!

I really like the Extended Glitz Mix of Here to Stay, the instrumental mix of Vanishing Point, then Arthur Baker's full mix of 1963-95. Not too big on most of their club mixes.

Martin Buttrich's mix of Everything's Gone Green.

I cannot stress how good this mix is.

Dark, menacing, but with so much funk and space in the mix.

Mr Buttrich. I salute you.

Totally faithful to the original yet completely different at the same time.

That's what makes a good remix

I have one thats both good and bad. The New Order Remix of Regret, the start up until hooky's bass gets its little performance time is grand. Afterwards, the synth droning gets repetitive and dull. This could've been the ideal remix, if they cut it off after hooky, with a slow fadeout. Just a personal opinion that though.

AMEN! Hands-down my favorite remix. I also love the Planet Funk remix of WFTSC and King Roc's remix of True Faith. Richard Morel/Pink Noise did a good job of True Faith '01 as well.

From the 80's era the classic remix for me is Bizarre Love Triangle.

Conversely, the worst are those godawful Sly & Robbie "remixes" of Ruined In A Day which all sound identical.

I'm glad someone finally took John Robie's razor blade and splicing block away from him (hello, Subculture).

Up there (for me anyway) with Daniel Miller's Hypersonic Remix of Nitzer Ebb's Hearts & Minds, Oakenfold's mix of Wrote for Luck, William Orbit's remix of Les Negresses Vertes' Zobi La Mouche, and Barney and DoJo's mix of Looking from a Hilltop.

Perfectly crafted mixes that take the spirit of the original and improve on it. A bit like Aliens and the Empire Strikes Back

Damn straight. I was listening to this, waiting for the rest of the song to kick in. After about 7 minutes, i said WTF?

Yep have to agree with that about Age of Consent. Howie B, I think it was. Absolutely destryoed everything good about the original. I was so angry when I heard it I wanted to "have a word"...

Unlike most people I quite like Van Heldens remix. Got well into it one messy comedown morning. I love the way he spins everything out on a snippet of Barney's vocal and then drops it all back in tidily at the end to get everyone dancing.

I need to get hold of that Buttrich mix. Is better than Dave Clarke's, which for me was a disappointment; favourite DJ v favourite band.

Certainly on the deluxe set of WFTSC...not sure if I'll include it on the EGG single in Recycle but there's also the Cicada remix and those versions done by The Advent so it'd be a nice outlet for them.

Up until the above pile of shit I had everything NO had done. I did purchase it but actually took it back and got a refund. Too many NO remixes drift too far away from the original structure of the song for my liking. There are some shocking 1963 ones as well.

Two of the better vones are the original 12" BLT and the 'Paradise' remix that featured on one of the True Faith ones.

The CJ Bolland mix of Temptation is as bad as anything they've done. Every now and then I pull out the Rest of... to see if I like it any better...nup.

A couple I have downloaded through this site I really love: Touched by the Hand of BIAS (my version seems to cut out - anyone got a link to a full version?) and a 5:16 Love Vigilantes remix (I have no idea what that is or where it came from but it found its way to my iPod somehow).

RIAD had some awful mixes but the Reunited in a Day mix is lovely. Most of the WFTSC mixes are cool. The first NO mix I got into as a kid was Shellshock - I remember listening to that on a Walkman, amazed at all the panning and futuristic effects...all things that are a bit cringeworthy now but back then it was like nothing I'd heard before so it still holds a special place

tis an excellent mix but takes a while to get goin,would be good if we could get a mix of it just when it starts proper,a sort of faded in version.

There's a god awful Justin Robertson mix - I think it's of 1963 that is just nosebleed techno with none of the original in there at all.

Armand Van Helden's mix sounds like he hated the original song or was so stoned he had no interest in remixing the song. He is just deconstructing the song and making it fucked up with no apparent point, certainly is not danceable. They must have paid him alot of money so they had to use it, he was a big name in the mid 90s

The Sly & Robbie mixes sound like an interesting leftfield idea that simply didn't work at all in the end. Ruined was not really a dance track, so they tried a different type of remix. Hey, better to have tried something different than just turn it into a bland dance track that Depeche Mode would have done.

There are lots of interesting remixes over the years. The Hardfloor remix of Blue Monday always seemed like a faithful well done attempt to make the song into Chicago acid by way of Germany, lots of energy, not sure why people dis it. The Pump Panel remix of Confusion is a nice hard techno track, but it seems to have almost no Confusion elements whatsoever. Maybe the considered it all pretty "confusing" that they did a remix that had nothing to do with the original.

I quite like the remix of paradise on Retro Disc 4.

The Razormaid remix of BM is my least favourite, mostly because it sounds like BM but in the wrong order. Pointless really.

I can't think of the worst remix off the top of my head, but as for the remixes I like...(I might not have the remix titles completely accurate, but I hope you get my idea.)

i thought BLT remix by THE CRYSTAL METHOD was descent. but fancy BLT shep remix AND REGRET fire island.

The mixes you can hardly hear what would be the original are sometimes bad and every now and then even annoying... but... there are soooo many good remixes... One of my favourites is Everything's Gone Green Cicada Mix. It would be great if someone has made an extended version of it...

There's a mix of 8:33 mins. lenght floating around. While the sound quality is very good (could really be an outtake mix), the mixing quality though is awfull. I could do that ways better, and I probably will give a try.

The Richard X Remix of BLT is an amazing update to the original. True Dub, Shep and the Perfecto mixes of True Faith are amazing... the Glimmers Club mix of Krafty is right cool, but right now my fav is the Tribute Mix of WFTSC. It's just amazing. They took the song, stripped it down a bit and made it danceable, but not fully housey. The best thing about it is the samples of previous NO songs that are seasoned throughout the track. Hearing subtle bits and pieces of True Faith, Theives like Us, Blue Monday, BLT and others over New Order's most recent single is goddamn cool. It kinda wraps up their career in a really satisfying way.

Lots of good remixes (as per defined here) but I have to go with "Here to Stay - Felix da Housecat's Extended Glitz Mix" as a favourite.

Tough call though, I might change my mind over time.

On the subject of remixes, what happened to that remix topic, did it become too illegal or something and get deleted?
