I'd definitely stick with Mr C
First time he played with the band, I was lucky enough to be there, thought New Order sounded a lot better (no offence to GG) Billy Corgan was fuckin good that night as well. I think he holds his own within the group - gives Barney the added freedom to sing properly:D And he seems to be enjoying it - so hell yeah (as Jeff The Chef would say) why not?;)
If there was a replacement for Gillian,i would agree with Phil,but at the end of the day,there is no replacement
For me, it would be David Potts, but that wouldn't happen of course because of the Monaco label he would bring with him, but I think his voice would make the most perfect backing vocals to Barney's.
I'd stick with Phil to ... He's a great guitarist ... No disrespect to Gillian but I don't think they'd sound as good live with Gillian trying to belt out the more guitar heavy Get Ready material ...
Phil C is a great addition to the group but it would be great to see GILLIAN make a cameo appearence if she cannot be back fulltime.Although NEW ORDER sound better live with PHIL it is still GILLIAN being apart of the band which is still important.After all most session players could help but IS IT NEW ORDER?I hope the original four DO make new music AGAIN. Just wanna add to this thread that it was great to see and hear GG at Finsbury giving it a bit of backing vocals :D
Oh and i got my Move ticket thru today!! (ya right Liv the tickets look pretty smart!) woo :D woo!! :D
No replacement in my opinion. I think (in the studio process) they would do very well as a three-piece.
I would LOVE to see Johnny Marr join the group and lend his expert guitaring to New Order. Barney has often complained how difficult it can be for him to play guitar and sing at the same time (yet I think he does a nice job at it!!). Too bad Johnny is with his new group The Healers.
Imagine that lineup...

I still love Gillian and would hate to see her leave. But getting Marr would be just ace! Ah well, we can always have futile dreams, right?
But then, that was the whole point of Electronic, wasn't it? For Johnny and Barney to come together. No more, no less! Johnny being with New Order would be a bit pointless - bit like asking the Smiths to reform and then having Bernard there as well whilst Andy Rourke was left out in the cold....besides, Morrissey wouldn't approve in the slightest!. 
So if Gillian did leave, wouldn't they have to change their band name again because of that pact they made long ago? Everytime the line up changed, they changed their name? stiff kittens -> Warsaw -> Joy Division -> New order ->

I think this "pact" only applies to Joy Division. They didn't change their name from Warsaw to Joy Division because someone left the band. Besides that, they never called themselves Stiff Kittens, it was just a stupid nickname created by someone from Buzzcocks.
it´s just listening to crystal live, specially that appearance on the jools holland show. the drums start and then suddenly the guitars knock you down like a gun shot 
then you find yourself jumping all around your room as barney (maybe not that ridiculous) 
and then hooky reminds you why you´re a new order fan. the band never sounded like this before.
I know it´s sad, I love gillian too. but phil C cannot go. even if gillian returns. it´s important to the live sound. many of us complained because of new order gigs being quite disrespectful to fans, as the band had to be "in the mood" to give an awesome performance. they also used to commit several mistakes playing and singing. and phil gives the band a new breathe.
so please gillian, come back and play keyboards like only you can. but let phil handle the strings.

It's usually what many bands does, they hire musicians for songs they can't do live all together.
I would have loved to see Billy Corgan with the band longer than this though... the main problem for most folks here might be that he's American... hence is not a football fan :D (at least not that type of football)
I suppose it would be kind of interesting - should Gillian ever return to the fold - of having FIVE people there - with Phil kept on as another auxillary guitar/keys man. But what is the serious likelihood of this happening however? Perhaps she might even reappear whilst they record their "next" album - and be present in the studio with them again - is it really still an open door policy with them nowadays?
I always suggested that New Order would be much better musically, live, if they had an additionnal musician and even a backing vocalist (which they do, now... at least most of the time, thanks to Dawn Zee).
I would definitly like them to add a permanent keyboardist which, also, could play guitar on songs who do not require keyboards.
I think it is sad that songs like Everyone Everywhere and Dream Attack have seen their keyboard parts sequenced in the past, or World had its backing vocals played from a tape.
