since many of our English brothers and sisters will be somewhat occupied this weekend, I'm going to pop this one in earlier than Friday...

I had a great one picked out, but I'll be damned if I didn't forget what it was, so for this week, I'm copping out, well, actually, I'm going with Siobhan's favorite order choon...and this one should ignite a little bit of controversy!!!

This is the ultimate New Order tune, but I'm sure more than a few of us are tired of it...

that funky floppy disc cover...and the beats...and the dancability (is that a word?)
the fact that they seem compelled to play it at every friggin gig
I love it because it is the tune that got me into the band
I'll give it a whopping 100%, because it was perfect at one time!
I'd take a villa in Cozumel any time I could get it!!

worst bit is the trumpet blasts they seem to be using live these days in the bridge. V tacky

Being cool at school for already having it when all the other kids were hearing a New Order record for the first time. My copy still bears the scars of spending a month being lent out to person after person to tape.
The remixes. You can't improve on perfection.
I loved Wilson's quote when he found out that they would be losing 4p on every copy. "Don't worry, It's not going to sell anyway...." I hate the fact that a lot of people consider New Order a one-hit-wonder because of it.

I love this RECORD for its NEWNESS.it had the BEST cover back then and also loved the fact that NEW ORDER did it LIVE on TOTP.Stars or wot? Not too keen on some of the bloody remixes. Sometimes you need to break the mould just to SURVIVE and this helped them a great deal.Blew my mind too if you can believe i had one then! 95% I would like to live in place i could call my own....perhaps NEW YORK or even LONDON,somewhere good for the nightlife,gigs and FUN. 1 I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say the best thing about it, is the LIVE version :nod: The sound is almost always fantastic - love seeing Hooky batter the drum machine shitless - and all the other members adding their wee extra's to build the song up, and they also experiment quite a lot during it's live outings. The early versions through the 80's were a bit of a fookin shambles half the time :lol: But as I said after seeing the Hultsfred concert - Blue Monday sounds as good as it ever did.

2 The worst bit....because It's the song that ignorant arseholes pin on the band....."New Order are a dance band" "It's the only decent thing they ever done" "it sold quite a few" "Why do they keep releasing it?" The song gave them so many tags to the neutral bystander - as for the song - OVERKILL - is why it constantly gets slagged - aye, it's a good song, but we do not need to hear it all the time at gigs?.....the best solution (maybe) would be to shove it on near the start of the set, play an edited version and get it over and done with :lol: It's a great song - but I fear like most other fans - they too have overplayed it, and that's the reason it annoys us;) NEARLY FORGOT.....don't like it cos of the dance it started at many school disco's - ye's know the one....loadsa birds in a line, left foot in, left foot out, do the hokey cokey..... :evil4:

3 It's an all-time great - groundbreaking!

Best bit: never could decide between the intro or the sequencer line Worst bit: the remixes, the worst of all being that John Potoker 1988 one (yes it's Potoker's fault. You didn't believe Old Quincy Boy would actually lay his hands on NO's material, did you? He just couldn't be arsed to do anything other than Wacko Jacko) Why I love it: Pure digital perfection Percentage: 100% (no, I'm not yet tired of it...) And I would love to live in Florence, Italy!

The Lyrics, oblique and beautiful.
The overkill factor, I don't eat special chow mein every night
The first New Order track I heard, great percussion, left field disco classic. I actually like the remixes well the 88 and Hardfloor ones anyway, oh and beach buggy.
94% not an absolute top 5 favourite but still an absolute classic.
Ooh a tough question. I've plumped for Barcelona a vibrant cosmopoliton city in my favourite country. Home of a great football club and some great archietecture(bit of a Gaudi fan, though why they are letting that other idiot desecrate the Sagradia Familia, I don't understand) Nice climate and near the coast. Easy access to Liverpool through cheap easy-jet flights. Left wing politically, close to Ibiza and a totty-fest of latina lovelies. Right what are the property prices like?

Why is it when everytime I request New Order to be played, They always play Blue Monday? I also agree with the comment that this song tagged NO as a dance Band. I'm kinda getting sick of explaining to people that this is not their only song!
Compared to the music at that time, this song sound so different, so innovative, so cool!

First record I remember that got boys dancin' together. Before that we just had the Jam & Madness to kick off to. Start of a new era.
They're biggin' it up too much with the End-of-Set slot. And all this "Oh, it's that record again!" sh*te. Anonymise it - open with it, or slip it in somewhere round the middle. It's just another New Order tune, and it shouldn't be lauded Head & Shoulders above the rest.
Indifferent. Was on a Stag in Notts this weekend and it came on in the Palais there. Everyone's like, "Al, it's Blue Monday!" and I'm, like, "So what?" much to my mates' confusion.
Stop me listening to it for a year and I'll give it 90%. Sadly, you can't escape it so I'll leave it as 60%.
Live in London so can't imagine living anywhere else long term. Like the idea of Sydney, so that you can travel to work in the city eachday on a chugboat, but it's too far away from family and friends to ever be more than a pipedream.

Oh god, Ah was wonderin' when this one would rear its uglee heed again....

1- It was pretty cutting edge at the time I s'pose. 2- It's dated and redundant as fook now - besides, like most people have said here - it's the only NewOrder tune most fookahs ever have - or know. 3- Its only good point now is that it propelled New Order into the dance/rock/pop mainstream - were it not for this damned record they would probably not be the big (respectably as opposed to massively, phenomenally) successful act they have been to this day. 4- Back then ah'd say 75%; noo ah'd say 50% Just sick of fookin' hearin' it that's all 5- Tough question. Ah cannot decide - too many beautiful places ah've seen, cannat whittle it down to just one, baby..... ;)

Best bit would have to be the intro. I just love the beat and build-up with all the instruments, especially Hooky's bass. The lyrics are another great bit.
Overplayed. I don't mind the mixes so much as hearing people think that Orgy was the original artist or better than New Order's version! That really ticks me off!
I love it because it's a classic song that was the blue-print for their success. A classic never dies. I don't hate it, never will either.
95%, at least.
Maybe somewhere tropical, in Hawaii or the Virgin Islands or Aruba.

Best thing about BM?

When I worked in a record shop in the 80's, I ordered 40 copies. Got a right old roasting from the manager. The whole lot sold within a week. (2 years after initial release).

Worst thing?

People saying, 'New Order? Oh, they did that Kylie record didn't they?'

And I LOVE the fact that they pissed so many people off by insisting on playing live on TOTP...

Could've sworn I'd posted a reply on this one already. As before, I love the sleeve, the intro, the lyrics, Hooky's bass, etc.

Worst bit is dealing with the people around here who think Orgy did it first.

One reason I love it is cause it was the first NO record that I could find in a regular record store here in the states.

Rating 90% cause it isn't overplayed over here, though I would imagine that if I lived in the UK I might think differently. Still nice to hear on the radio from time to time.

Somewhere in the Caribbean, please.

The best part is the incredible (now classic) drum beat.

Worst part: BM'88. To cluttered. Nice video, however.

I love it because it made me a NO fan. I'd heard TF first, but BM blew me away.
