Callin' all who bought the Remasters and got slightly faulty CDs in the digi-pak

I apologize for the cross posting, but is everybody happy with the CDs they bought? Personally I will be going straight back to the shop for a refund, as all these "CDs" are clearly faulty. Channel drops, clicks, pops, from vinyl? Unacceptable. I would suggest that everybody who's unhappy (quite a few people, it seems) does the same. Return your CDs for a refund. That's the only way Warner Brothers will listen.

I don't think taking them back to a shop for a refund will do much good in the long run. Typically music stores buy the products from the company at cost, then turn around and sell the product to customers for profit. The best way to address the issue is spamming Warner with emails of complaints.

There was a similar event that took place with the Thompson Twins re-release of Into The Gap (2-CD Deluxe Edition), done by Edsel records early this year. I think it was early March.

A lot of people (including me) bought that an it appeared to have a couple of vynil versions on the second disc which sounded totally awful. We send emails to Edsel and adressed the problems quite well.

What happened was that we got replacement discs for the 2nd one at the end of August this year, so that you can throw away the old disc 2 and replace the new disc (exactly looking like the older one) with.

Let's hope London will read the posts made and listen to the one who bought those remasters of Low-Life, Brotherhood & Technique.

Good Lord. They actually remade the disk completely? And for the bleedin' Thompson Twins (not to pick a fight, but they're hardly the most respected or high status group of their generation are they?). I think I'll be emailing London then, you never know. But somehow I suspect this Edsel (why are they named after one of the worst cars ever made, I wonder?) must be a label more interested in the music than 'we just want the money' London (how dare they name themselves after my home city, bastards).

This is a good idea. If the lot of us can band together for a large piracy initiative, then surely we can band together to let the companies know how we feel about these remasters. Does anyone have the contact info for Warner/ London so we can spam them with disgruntled emails? :)

yeah, i bought those thompson twins remasters, and was surprised to hear issues with it..

then someone said if you email edsel, they will send you a 'fixed' disc, with no questions asked.

sure enough, i emailed them, told my address, and a week later, FOR FREE, a new disc showed up..

very impressive... edsel, and the person in charge actually checks the thompson twin mailing list for suggestions, and is in close contact with that community..

so far they have had 3 remasters released, and another 2 disc set coming out for their first 2 albums later this year..

they did put out 3 poorly done remasters for blancmange too... so i don't know if we just got lucky one time...

maybe london/rhino will work something out..

Soundwise, the Blancmange remasters are well done according to my ears and eyes (yes, even the artwork, just like the Thompson Twins artwork).

I think what you try to say is that some of the remixes/leftovers (especially on the 3rd and last Believe You Me album) were not included ...

Only this year, this happened with Cherry Red's reissue of Chapterhouse's "Whirlpool":

Cherry Red did indeed re-master the album after complaints. An honourable thing to do.

What vexes me is that in this piratical, mp3 whatever -- age, people actually buying new CDs should be treated respectedly - with great artwork, etc. Technically we're overpaying for paper, plastic, all that 3-D space called a CD.

We have to ask London Order to help with it, since they're close to that label's home office.

no, not just that.. there's a lot of problems with them..

they ARE poor quality... the sound is not improved anywhere near what the originals were, and they were all re-released recently..

the tracklistings are a mess, with tracks mislabled, and the wrong times printed on them..

the booklets are short on descriptions, and don't give many details..

in short, a HUGE DISASTER for the releases...

at least the thompson twins ones were decent, because they listened to the fans..

the blancmange ones are just as bad as these new order ones, because they didn't really care about them..

Given the obvious disquiet with the quality of the remasters, may be they should be described as "The Perfect Hiss" - sorry!

Just listening to Radio 2 from last night and even Hooky said they couldn't find some of the Masters, so this probably goes a far way to explain the end product!

On a lightner note, what the heck will they fill the Republic Bonus disc with, any ideas? Remember in Press at the time there was a few tracks left over, did these morph into Solo work, like Monaco did with Sweet Lips?

are these tracks available for download?

are they the same bad quality as the cd's?

has anyone tried that route yet to see if its any better?

Pet Shop Boys replaced initial copies of 'Disco 3' for free too, as there was a tiny audio glitch for a split second in one of the tracks.

I guess we have to wait for that answer until (after) October 13. However, there's still a chance that those are better than London's ... at least 'bonusdisc-wise'. :\ohwell:

Well, that settles it. I had considered buying the reissue of Movement, which is the only one I am really interested in, but now I will settle for downloading the 2 songs I don't have yet from the bonus disc--Temptation 7" and Ceremony alternate version. I am vexed because these are already available on iTunes UK but I cannot purchase them because I do not have a billing address in the UK. So much for the concept of a global market!

Thanks to everyone who has warned others about the faulty remasters. That is a selfless act.

I have all the tracks from the bonus discs, so I considered buying the reissues purely for the sound, but even if that is faulty, then sorry, I already used my funds on Centredate issues back in 1994-95.
