especially with a lot of these late 80s, early 90s digitally recorded albums, a lot of the songs were a bit sterile and too clean, cold, and the mastering never corrected that...
now, they can go back and give back some analog warmth (even via digital processing) to those tracks, and help them be a bit fuller and rich....
but, just for future reference, the fact that something is recorded digitally has no impact on how good the mastering was done at the time....

i agree with you...
however, i'll have to ask nick, if he can answer that
concerning the mastering of the original cds..
at this point, all those cds, were probably DDD,
digitally recorded, mixing, and mastering..
they used to print these on cd's, but stopped around 1990.
so we don't really know the details..
there's just a lot less work, if everything is done
digitally, and that's why remastering may sound different,
but how much is obviously subjective..
