Now that's what I call irony

ITV last night had a show marking 25 years since the first now that's what i call music album, with original artists from 1983 on playing tracks, the backing music used for VT clips and the add breaks was Blue Monday, which did not appear on the original album.

Put a smile on my face, remembering the attitude of factory, new order and their fans at the time, I would have felt betrayed if they'd been on such an album.

it does now however feature on the Now 1983 CD which has just been released, and my attitude has changed totally, I say fair play to them, let them get some royalties, they deserve it.

It's a different context. When they fist made those songs is was more artistic and more about the culture and movement and all that good stuff.

All these years later, when a song like Blue Monday shows up on a compilation CD it just lets us all know that it hasn't been enveloped into obscurity and more people and new audiences get a chance to enjoy it.

The revelution is over, time to get paid.
