Recently I've purchased a 2CD compilation by Dave Clarke, featuring what I realized to be a different mix/edit of his version of Everything's Gone Green.
My (the rest of) version runs 5:28 (Niagara.edu lists 5:26), but it appears on this compilation with 4:53 in length, plus a few more vocal bits (non backwards). Any thoughts, anyone?

The track on the Clarke compilation is the original mix he did for the Rest of... compilation. Bernard liked it but said the vocals were "too upfront". To be a smartass, Clarke submitted another remix with backwards vocals.
In true New Order style, the band opted to use the reversed version.

That was the 808 State 12", yes, but not the New State record label 12" with the EGG (Dave Clarke mix) on it! :p
Anyway, to answer the question, I believe that the version on the New State 12" is the same as on "The Rest Of"? From memory, the version on the Dave Clarke compilation is exclusive?

The New State 12" version has the vocals forwards, no? So it's not the Rest Of version, I think its the same as the Dave Clarke remixes and rarities version (which might even be mastered from that vinyl)

Yes. The New State has the forward vocals. Clarke's liner notes in the Remixes & Rarities compilation give a revised version of the Rest of... remix story:
"New Order's 'Gone Green' has just recently come out on New State Recordings, I Never knew what happened to this. I never got a promo or finished cd back in the day, just an acetate with the vocals backwards (apparently someone wasn't happy with the normal vox), but it came to my attention in Spain 2006 when a dj played it before me, so thankfully now it had a full release some ten years after being made."
Thing is, I'm certain the story of submitting the reversed vocal version was a quote from Clarke at the time of the Rest of... release.
