Marvellous bit of town planning - build a bridge that arcs so that you can't see who's already on it when you walk onto it. Sounds simple, but it works really well.

Am I right? Wasn't Kevin Cummins' who took that picture?

wow,thats a cracking top 50 even now. Comsat Angels are even more culty-obsessive-obscure than Joy Division. You used to have to walk over that bridge to goto the Factory/Russell Club/PSV. Kev Cummins was everywhere, we recreated the St.Peters Square pic the other day. no 10 dexys...stone cold classic. 23 young marble giants... nirvana template.

I bought the documetary DVD the other day (£7 at my local HMV, bargain hunters!) and there's a bit featuring Cummings talking about that shoot and the bridge as it is now. I expect it's a bit like the zebra crossing outside Abbey Road i.e fans from all over stand on it and have their photo taken.

The doc also features the sites of several significant JD places such as TJ Davison's rehearsal rooms which now seems to be a swish block of flats, Pip's disco, the site of The Factory club, Barton Street, and even the former Derby Hall (now named The Met) in Bury, scene of the infamous riot.

That image in particular - as well as the famous one of Ian smoking in his greatecoat - are really iconic.
