Had a good a listen to some of the older tracks last nite and remembered the above was their first as sole producers, and what a difference' a more dance oriented sound and an indication of the future.Not sure if they had played some shows in New York and picked up some influences along the way.Was this the most important release by them as a statement to everyone that they had moved on and turned a corner....Its funny because i read a statement by Martin Zero' that they(Joy Division) were a dance band with gothic overtones' and now looking back,he was spot on.

Dufford these are indeed BRILLIANT tracks and TEMPTATION still is a BIG crowd pleaser when done live! It is just a pity HE could never remember what COLOUR her bloody eyes where?
Yeah, seen em do 'Temptation' plenty of times but never 'Hurt' pity really as it is one of my faves.

Temptation = great seminal track! (definitely a positive progression from their more dour earlier material)
Hurt = crap filler track! (sounds like something they tossed off whilst they were dicking about in the studio...and it bloody shows)
i love the song hurt! very joy-divisionish. i keep thinking of old footage of soldiars marching in world war two.

stephen has said that gillian a had gift for making equipment break down.
Well i think 'Hurt' is one of the songs that is underated, why do they have to keep playing 'BLT'....

It's a fair point Dufford, but I always felt that Everything's Gone Green "defined" their direction more than Temptation and even Blue Monday.
Tempation was a big step, one that almost certainly was not followed. Vulgar sexuality for them. the only other song that would come close would be Fine Time. Hurt, on the other hand, is the same anger and saddness that runs through JD and NO. Tempatation could be considered one of their best tracks ever. Hurt, while I love its anger and energy, runs a little long and gets old fast. If I am angry, or pissed off at a girlfriend, I like to listen to Hurt.
Everythings Gone Green IMHO is NO appealing to Ian about the direction they should go. I love the jam after the last verse. really set the standard for their future projects. They really should re-record it to eliminate the dated sound of the early electronics. but I am afraid they screw it up like they did with Confusion and tempation on Substance. I love that song.

Yes, Temptation seems to be a natural progression from 'Everythings Gone Green' Esp in the length of the song and the more up-beat feel,maybe that to was over looked as a factor.
