Twisted Tender Mock-Chicken Pieces

Hello everyone, having taken The Electrical Engineers hit album 'TT' from my loft (after hearing many wonderful stories of its natural beauty on this very site) and outrunning many small mice, I am eager to learn which tracks do actually hit the spot (in a 'Leave Me A Loan Shark' kind of way). After quickly shuffling through each song, musing briefly on the extraordinary 'TT', I couldn't help myself be disappointed 'for sure' yet again. It is, as I have previously stated, a feeble worm of an album.

Could anyone recommend a particular song to listen to, I am almost still open minded about this, (8th, 15th?) Electro-magnetic CD and, given I spent about 16.99 (UK pounds sterling) on the bastard, am keen to extract some modicum of pleasure from it. Also, did Mr. Peter Hookline perform on track 11? ... if not, is Marr attempting to duplicate the low-slung hero in an effort to prop the album up against a particularly weak and nauseating lamppost?

I would start with "Vivid", which was also the first single off the album. A catchy guitar-driven track with a classic Barney-line "have you a reason to behave like this, maybe you need a psychoanalyst". Then i'd skip to the title-track "Twisted Tenderness", the only song on the record with massive keyboards. Sounds very similiar to recent new order stuff.

I have always found "Vivid" way too similar to Monaco´s "What do you want from me" showing that Barney himself is not above a bit of ripping off his pal. Funnily enough I think that "Vivid" is the better song of the two. IMO "Twisted Tenderness" the song is head and shoulder above the rest of the album which I must agree with the Huntsman is pretty average. Great artwork, though!

Vivid, TT&Haze are the best on there. Late at night's catchy but a bit shite lyrically. Prodigal Son's pretty decent.

Thanks for comments, I guess the album is more widely recognised as a bit trumpy than I first imagined. I'll give the recommendations a spin.

Vivid seemed okay but a bit weak vocally on the verses? ... I can't see the link with Moderates 'What Do I do with You'. TT is similar to songs on 'Getting Things Ready' I'd agree with that, especially 'SLY'.

when she's gone, flicker, haze, make it happen, king for a day and warning sign. (if you don't have the last two, then i guess it's because i have the american version) really good in some parts, but between break down (song 4) and when she's gone (song ten) are disposible and forgettable. everything else,

"Vivid" is the best song on that album, IMO. It has a rocking beat and harmonicas too. A tad of "Love Vigilantes" for ya. ;) Besides TT, I think "Late at Night" was another good one. "Haze" gets honorable mention, but the rest are mediocre, at best. It's a good album, but I liked their two previous albums much better. I wish Electronic would still keep going and churn out a 4th album while we wait for this forthcoming (perhaps years-coming) new album. But Barney is too busy to worry about Electronic, although much like New Order after Republic, I don't know if they "officially" disbanded so maybe we'll see another Electronic album in 2007!

last i heard, barney said that electronic was pretty much over cuz he didn't have time for it now that he's back with new order. but they plan to release a best of sometime. who the hell knows when.

They may not be great songs on their own, but I've always liked "Vivid," "Late at Night," "Like no Other" and "Prodigal Son" compared to the rest of the record.

And so it seems, the general concensus is very much in agreement that 'Vivid Fish', 'Twisting Werewolf' , 'Prodigal Moon Cat' and 'Hazey Dog Creature' are the stand out tracks? - I will now listen to these with ears wide open, as opposed to my previous eyes wide shut.

I did the same as you did after reading to all those ravings here about that Rasputin CD.....went to my basement ( thats for the bad CDs, I keep the good ones in the loft... ) and dig it up....had a few rounds of listening...chewing...chewing.... nah....no standout tracks to me.......

Return it ( btw, shouldnt have blown my money buying the Japanese copy just to get that one extra track..) back to the basement...... and picked up the other Rasputin CD instead...the one by BONEY M.........

Can anybody recommend the best web site to get the Deluxe (Koch) TT version from? Ta.

As a post-script to this thread I have now listened to the recommendations and ... well ... my opinion has not changed. I think the production is the best I have heard Electronic produce but the songs are weak ... even Prodigal Son! and I was so looking forward to un-earthing a new aural gem, instead, I rolled over a plump turkey covered in twigs and leaves.

For what it's worth, Vivid and TT seem pretty good, all others are absolute tap water.

Such a waste of talent.

Vivid is the only one that I ever listen to - I made myself an Electronic compilation, and found myself so short of stuff I liked that I had to add Monaco and The Other Two as well to make up an 80 min CD :(

... what a very poor CD that must have been.

To be honest, if I made an Electronic compilation it would pretty much consist of the first album, which I think is an absolute gem. Especially can't get enough of Tighten Up at the minute. Can't be arsed with Twisted Tenderness at all - think its a mess.
