Unfortunately, SkyArts isn't a free channel, so can't get it via Virgin/NTL without subscribing to it... Not sure it's really worth it for one programme?

I'm sure somebody out there with a subscription to it will upload it via YouTube? (Fingers crossed)

It is a bit crap, isn't it?

According to the listings for the next couple of weeks, Albert Hammond is the current showing (it seems to get repeated every day), and the next one is Donovan (again, a daily showing - obviously not a lot of programmes on Sky Arts!)

As to when Bernard's show is on, your guess is as good as mine!

It's a thursday night programme at 20:00,repeatedon Saturdays same time-ish. Albert Hammond, Donovan and then Ian Broudie...

It seems that Bernard's will be showing around middle to end of March. Should be interesting though, each artist plays 4 songs at the end of the show acoustically. Wonder whether he'll be on keys or guitar?

No, but it would be interesting to hear him perform tracks like True Faith, Regret, WFTSC, Temptation, Vanishing Point, BLT, ect. Those are great songs, songs that he wrote most of the music to, and they also feature some of his best and most interesting lyrics. I'd be interested in hearing about them.

For the record, I happen to love Jetstream. I think its a great pop song.

Good show that covered the usual JD/NO and Electronic history. Performed LWTUA , BLT and Getting away with it. Also performed a new song possibly called Sink or Swim.

He was joined by Phil Cunningham and Jake Evans (Rambo & Leroy) on all the songs.All the songs were acoustic.

At the end he mentioned about Bad Lieutenant and said they were finishing off an album and will perform it live.

Most importantly - I didn't see an autocue!! Must have been well hidden.

He played lwtua, blt, getting away with it and a new one 'sink or swim.' Looking forward to the new album and gigs.

Did he do any "Come on"(s) for LWTUA? :p

Interesting to hear that Neil Tennant wrote most of "Getting Away With It" including the chorus.

Bernard also wore a Burberry styled rain mac coat all the way through the show.

He's looking a bit weighty and very grey of hair, but then he is getting on a bit now... :\ohwell:

On the plus side, he sounded in fine voice.

One thing I did notice - the main chorus guitar riff in Sink or Swim is near identical to Catch The Sun by Doves. Still liked it though.

Thanks Shug, really enjoyed all of that. Electronic really did sound good acoustically, something I never thought I'd be able to say.

Going to give the new song a few more listens, think I like it though. Bernard sounded great on them all.

Tennant wrote the (great) lyrics....the music is Sumner and Marr....mostly Sumner. Electronic actually started life as a Bernard Sumner solo record.

Bernard looked and sounded awesome! Songs all sounded great as well, though I would have rather heard something like TPK, TF, WFTSC, or Regret over LWTUA (something where Bernard wrote the lyrics).

The Bad Lieutenant song Sink or Swim sounds really good! Classic Bernard really....beautful uplifting melody, ageless plaintive vocals, daft lyrics that seem to make no sense but make perfect sense complete with bizarre metaphors.....could be a great New Order song even! Very excited for BL!

Absolutely brilliant!!! I love Sink or Swim. Great lyrics from BS, and the tune is just great. All the performances were enjoyable. I'd love mp3s or even flacs so I can take the audio with me.

Thanks Shug mate - really enjoyed the new song. Thought the performance was a bit weak on the old tracks but much better on "Sink or Swim". Maybe Barney could concentrate more on his singing without the guitar to worry about on the new track (or maybe he made more effort on his new track).

Barney always does seem to have that little bit of attitude that New Order was holding him back from greatness. Whatever. I wonder how many songs he will write for Bad Lt. since the other guy will be writing songs also, it sounds like a similar set up to Monaco. At least Phil is currently employed.

I think that he usually did the arrangement (Debbie Curtis did say that Barney was the one usually doing the arrangements on JD songs so I presume he did the same with NO) and that the programming was something else. It's two different things I believe. He was the leader of the band like Ian was the leader of Joy Division, so his input was strong in regards to influencing the sound.

It might be also his style of talking without really meaning that everything was his. Like he said "his" song when the interviewer asked about "Love Will Tear Us Apart". I highly doubt he really thinks that's HIS song. He's part of the song writing team so he just says it's his. I think it's just his style of wording really.

I hope someone will torrent this soon. If not, I'm hoping some generous soul will share the DVD among us. Please please please?

The bare new song sounds good, but I can't comment until I hear the end result. Barney have lost his touch unfortunately and I am doubting it will sound very good at the end. Let's just hope for the best.

I suppose its a matter of opinion.

I think most New Order songs sound gorgeous and rather lovely when played acoustically on guitar or piano. True Faith, Temptation, Bizarre Love Triangle, The Perfect Kiss, Dream Attack, Regret, Confusion, and many, many other New Order songs sound wonderful when played acoustically.

A well constructed, well written song will sound good when played on just about any instrumentation. Most New Order songs are pretty well written with especially strong melodies, which is why a lot of them sound great when stripped down.

Matter of fact, Almanso has done some really beautiful acoustic based covers of New Order tunes, my favorite being his version of 'Everyone Everywhere".

I think the new song sounds great, and I think it was soung good when loaded with electronics. I don't know why you would think the production would be awful......Bernard did the lions share of the production work on New Order stuff and his production work for other people has always been really good. Tony Wilson thought Bernard was as good a producer as Martin Hannet.

Bernard Sumner was/is the leader of New Order. The arrangments on Blue Monday were done by him, as was most of the production work on Blue Monday. Tony Wilson said as much, and the great Peter Hook mentioned that Bernard played and programmed the synth bass lines of BM, which are the entire backbone around which the song was constructed. The idea for Blue Monday came from Bernard's desire to create a dance song similar to "Dirty Talk" by Klein and MBO and "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real" by Sylvester, as well as the whole bands desire to create a song that would play itself.

Bernard wrote the arrangement and basic melody of Blue Monday..and onto this skeleton, Hooky improvised his fucking brilliant and god like basslines, Steve came up with the drum patterns, and Gillian and Bernard came up with the synth parts.

Bernard was also the key architect of Temptation, Crystal (He actually wrote Crystal for some German pop star to sing), Regret, and many other New Order songs. He has always said in interviews that he writes a lot of the music and basic song structures, and then Hooky, Steve, and Gillian would create and add thier parts onto that.

Other New Order songs came from other members. I would bet money that Age of Consent started life as the lead bass line that Hooky plays....Hooky wrote that bass line and everyone followed and built on it. Its different on different songs.......Steve and Gillian wrote the music for World in Motion, Gillian wrote most of the music for Dream Attack (and played the great lead guitar line). Hooky wrote the main synth bass line that forms Touched By the Hand of God, the middle section of Krafty, and I would bet that he came up with the core riff for 60 MPH as well.

But a lot of New Order songs started life with Bernard. He was the leader of the band and in some cases, also the main songwriter.

Canuck brings up another good point....Bernard was the main music arranger in Joy Division. This is mentioned by both Debbie Curtis and Tony Wilson.

In David Nolan's book on Bernard Sumner, its mentioned that Love Will Tear Us Apart started with the Synth melody Bernard wrote, and that he and Ian jammed the song together (I think maybe it was Terry Mason who says he remembers Ian and Barney practicing the song alone together before Ian had any lyrics).

I didn't think he sounded egotistic in this interview at all...and in the past he has always been more than forthcoming about the creative input that Hooky, Steve and Gillian had on New Order songs.

And this is a matter of personal opinion...but I prefer the first Electronic album over anything that Monaco. Revenge, and the Other Two put out. Though I do like Monaco, Revenge, and the Other Two a lot.

As such, I am really interested in hearing Bad Lieutenant.

Sorry, i just wanted to say i thought the song was a bit poor. I have only listened to it once though. I hope i'm wrong, i probably am cos all you lot seem to like it. Good to have a new Barney number though!

I'll go along with much of what Zach said... However, I still think the last great song Barney has come up with is 'Crystal', which was probably born ten years ago.

He needs to pull a cracker out of the bag again, methinks, and sooner rather than later.

The new song is alright... but its missing a strong bassline, some tight drumming, and an appropriate synth-line. I.e. all the other component parts to a band we used to love.

Got to finally watch this today! Thought it was interesting, and the new song just sounds like Barney to me, nothing more, nothing less - which all in all means it'll be something that I quite like.

Did wonder what the hell he was doing when he performed LWTUA acoustic, but half way through I burst into tears (and I don't think it was because I still thought it was bad, more something about it touched a nerve)

He mentions Bad Lieuntenant will be going live - that's surely got to be at least a new injection of excitement - even if it turns out rubbish?!

Interesting, I thought. Typical Bernard interview, though for once he admitted some of the blame for the way New Order went in 1989. LWTUA does work quite well acoustically, Getting Away With It was a pleasant surprise, and the new song was ok until he lapsed into his standard "hey now what you doing" lyrics at the end.

Of course we will go and get pissed at Bad Loot gigs - £40 says they do some NO stuff as well.......

Just listened, missed this thread somehow. Really enjoyed it so cheers shugz. Nothing new on the interview but good to see Barney back in the public eye. New songs sounds pretty good to me. look foward to more and be great to see barney live thought that would never happen again.

Sink Or Swim recalls "Raise The Pressure" to me. The melody, the vocals, it seems like some off beat notion to that album.

I thought Barney spoke very openly about himself and quite objectively about New Order. It sounds like the passing of time away from the band has given him space to reflect on his career and the bands he's been in and what they achieved.

The new song was the usual mishmush of bad lyrics and dodgy singing that we expect and adore. cant wait for the album. But nice to see Barney revisit the old tunes once again. Seems the mans got fire in the belly again

First of all, thanks to Mr Shug. I watched all 7 pieces.

I'm not a big fan of acoustic arrangements, so I wasn't thrilled by the treatment the songs received from folk guitars and a dry, unpolished voice from Barney.

However, I really digged "Swim & Sink". What a delight that song is. Now it occured to me finally about Barney's writing of the recent years. I think his latest style started with "Such A Good Thing" thru "Hey Now Whatcha Doing", "WFTSC", "Miracle Cure"... all with somewhat obtuse down-to-earth lyrics and driving melodies.

It is a pity the song does not have a destiny to be a NO tune. Looking definitely forward the Bad Leutenant output. I hope it won't be shit like 808 State's "Ex:cel" that also included collaborations.

I had to come out of the wood work again just to say thanks for putting this up. I really enjoyed this, especially the acoustic performances. I thought the lyrics for Sink & Swim where pretty much shit, but the melody is good. It sounds like a WFTSC tune, but I still like it. The interview bits were good too, but a bit silly at times.

These guys don't have to prove anything at this point, nor realistically should much be expected.

Bernard remains a paradox. Not sure everything he says in interviews is on the level, it is just the way he is, he doesn't ever seem that comfortable in that situation. When a new album is released and how many songs Bernard actually writes since he implies that Rambo & Leroy are doing alot of the work also... we will see. If Bernard gets inspired and has fun, good. Wait and see, and don't get too excited.

Has it been said if Bad Lt. has a record deal yet?

I think the reason Steve was not there because it was an acoustic sessions, so I guess they didn't need Steve for drumming but I think he is in the band because they need a drummer.

although its great to see bernard, it kind of makes me sad, hes getting old....

Miricle Cure was good music with bad lyrics, but I still liked it. The new song is boring in the accoustic version... maybe better with synths, drum machine and tele-prompter?
