Not the ideal song for making out, but I suppose it's worth it.

I'm surprised people even knew the song, since one presumes that this had a largely american voters.

When you said "shocking" I thought you were hinting that "Shellshock" made the list.

Both Joy Division and New Order have huge followings in America. Joy Division is especially popular with teenagers thanks to bands like The Killers referencing them all the time. New Order are quite popular with college kids, especially in LA and Chicago. Blue Monday is still a staple of both club nights and indie dance parties here in Columbus.

LWTUA isn't really a love song though...just a heartbreaking assesement of love gone wrong. Most of the other songs on that list aren't love songs either. "Love Reign O'ver Me" by the Who has nothing to do with love, its a song about self identity. . "Pride" by U2 isn't a love song, its a song about Dr. Martin Luther King. "Whole Lotta Love" is about butt sex.

It's a list of songs with the word 'Love' actually in the title, not necessarily 'love songs'. Pretty stupid list idea, but I still thought it was crazy that Joy Division topped an American mainstream magazine poll.

You're bang on about Freelove, #1 Depeche Mode song in my book.

Certainly fits in among the ranks of I feel loved, Love in itself, and Strangelove. Though strangelove '88 was a fucking waste.
