Sad NO-related anecdote - Can you beat that one ? — Forum Archive

Electronic did a gig at the Palace, a nightclub in Paris, in december of 91.

At the time, I was sharing my appartment with a girl who was partly french. I managed to get a ticket and took the train to Paris.

Beforehand, I asked her if she had the "Liberation" newspaper she was buying everyday for the exact time of the show. She said she didn't know where it was, didn't want to look for it, but was affirmative on that point : gifs at the Palace never begin before midnight.

So I arrived in Paris at 11 pm, just to watch the roadis loading the gear back into the trucks. I had to spend that gloomy night in Paris cos there were no more trains. I just missed Electronic. Never seen NO live before, only Revenge once.

When I came back home, I heade to the bathroom. In order to do that, I had to walk through her bedroom. Lying on the floor was that "Liberation" paper. I checked and it was printed : "show : 20 pm".

When I said that to her, she said to a friend of mine I was sneaking into her stuff.

I hated that girl !

Well, that's a sad story...

Sebastien & I's only "sad" story, which is not really, is we bought 4 tickets to go see New Order at the Canada's Wonderland amusement park in Toronto back in 1993..

We bought our tickets as fast as possible, being in Montreal, technically we should have a better chance.

When we travelled to Toronto, we were sure there was no reserved places, so we stayed in front of the gates of the auditorium almost all day long, when we got there, we stayed at the t-shirt boot and let people pass.. when we arrived to the auditorium, we saw there was reserved seats indeed!

Again, why the hell didn't Ticketmaster tell us about those reserved seats? We saw scalpers trying to sell tickets outside the amusement park, but tought they were the same tickets as ours...

Well, it's not sad as yours, but FORTUNATLY, it was a beautiful day without any rain, and the show was great.. it had to be, 1000 km of road makes it better :D

I do not know whether mine beats yours since there are no girls involved but..

It happened the first time NO came to Spain.

The posters read something like this "It is so beatutiful that it can´t be true...only it is...New Order are playing in Spain" They played in a place called Mollerusa not very far from my home town...exactly the same day I had my final examinations to get to University.

As it is I chose University and I am still regretting it.

I saw New Order in 1984 at the Seaside Festival in Belgium. They co-headlined with The Stranglers. Very nice atmosphere and they really did a great show! I met a girl afterwards at this festival and instantly fell in love. I still regret I missed New Order playing the Inside Festival in Liege the next day, as it didn't work out with the girl after all... So, no love and no show! (I even had a guest ticket for the Inside show)....

FYI : I'm happily married now and saw their debacle in Cologne last month... Looking forward seeing them playing Belgium in November (who knows; I'm trying to convince promotors)

Mine could have turned bad, but luckily didn't - so on a positive note...

At RAH, London, 1986, Brotherhood tour, the audience started leaving when N.O. went off stage. I sat down, pint in hand, lit up a cigarette, while my mate was getting his jacket on. Everyone had heard 'New Order don't play encores'. Prepared to look like a complete prat, I just said 'They'll be back'. 5 minutes later, they were - only half the audience saw the encore. Me and my friend included.

C. N. Smash - a quality decision made there for deffs. - as if we didn't need another reason to smoke, its there, in black and white for all to see. Not that I advocate smoking you understand - but when the Smasher gets to here another NO song for free, plus, he gest to enjoy puffing on a string of weed... well, who's to argue about that one.

Geoff K - top story (again) - just where do you dig them out from? - I feel a book brewing about the members of this site....... could be called...... the order of life, or, how several people around the globe enjoyed life with various degrees of success.

Hey Seb and Nic,

I was at the Toronto gig in 1993 also, it was my first time seeing New Order. I thoroughly enjoyed it, I was also in the general admission area behind the reserved seats. I had spent the day riding the rollercoasters before the show. J'habitais avec une quebecoise a ce temps la (I used to love her but i had to kill her ;)). (please excuse my english keyboard)

Anyway, I hope you have a chance to see NO again soon, because I can tell you that they were much better live for the 2 Recycle gigs and the 2 Get ready gigs that I saw. :) In Toronto in 93, I remember that Hooky was the only one into it, Barney barely spoke to the crowd at all and seemed like he didn't want to be there. He seems much more into it these days!

A funny conclusion to my opening story :

Sunday night, me and my girl stayed at a hotel that was 3 houses to the right of some sort of abandonned building that used to be... The Palace ! Yes, the club Eletcronic played 10 years ago.
