I've got a question about these live CDs.
What labels were they released on officially? I've seen something like 10 different variations on labels and catalogue numbers on eBay. I imagine some of them are bootlegs, but I wonder which ones are legit.
Also, which was the first to press these?
I have a Preston on NMC and a LBD on Alchemy. Are these both legit?
I've been trying to find a LBD on NMC so I'd have a matching set, but they seem to have become quite rare.
On a legit format, I only have the Preston one. It's catalogue number is FACD 2.60 and it's a New Millennium Comunications release (under Joy Division license, as it says on the sleeve and disc). I seem to recall this NMC moniker being another Tony Wilson masterplan, but NOOL'ers with THE knowledge surely know better... There's also a www.factory.com link in the credits!

They were originally released on Alchemy with the FACD2.60 Cat no as far as i can remember.........
Yup,just had a look my copy is on alchemy with cat no as above,got my copy on release day.
There are loads of different preston & l,b,d releases,i think the NMC ones ARE LEGIT,although,the coloured vinyl editions could be bootlegs AND are available on a well known site. They are also regularly sold on ebay.
Perhaps they are all either affiliated to london recs in some way, either part of london,or licensed to london.
Or,could be an indie label with a licencing agreement with London or the band itself.

They were on NMC initially. Alchemy came later.
I believe they were legit (licensed from London) from the start, but the licence has now expired. The CDs are deleted and it looks like the ones that are still available are dodgy 3rd party licences from NMC/Alchemy. Difficult to stop.
As far as I know, all of these CDs have mastering faults (skips, 2 second gaps between songs -- on a live album!!).
Imagine how jaw-droppingly good the LBD release could be, if only the complete 16 song set was retrieved from the France Inter archive and mastered properly.

Amy that are ALCHEMY ARE LEGIT,Alchemy did some promo cds/cdrs for sirens,i've got some scans somewhere.

They're not the same Alchemy. Well, if they were, that would explain the dodgy mastering on the last few years' New Order releases!

Yes, that ugly red logo wasn't on the original Saville sleeve design.
I think NMC were bought out by, or changed their name to, Alchemy. One of the co-founders, who worked with Wilson and Saville on the first releases, had left by then.
The Fractured box set is essentially the first two NMC CDs in an outer slipcase. Then there's "Re:Fractured Box One", a pointless Alchemy box set which also comes with a t-shirt and a hidden bonus cd (Amsterdam gig). It's, likely, hidden because they didn't have the rights to this release - as VPRO in Holland own the recording.
