Just keep buying them, get the old remasters out of circulation, until eventually you get the new re-remasters.

Go to Amazon and they will give it a separate listing. I'll have to get them through Amazon anyway as I live in (ohio).

THE BEATLES' ENTIRE ORIGINAL RECORDED CATALOGUE REMASTERED BY APPLE CORPS LTD. AND EMI MUSIC FOR WORLDWIDE RELEASE ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 (9-9-09)

London, England - April 7, 2009 - Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music are delighted to announce the release of the original Beatles catalogue, which has been digitally re-mastered for the first time, for worldwide CD release on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (9-9-09), the same date as the release of the widely anticipated "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game. Each of the CDs is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released.

The albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period utilising state of the art recording technology alongside vintage studio equipment, carefully maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings. The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since its original release.

The collection comprises all 12 Beatles albums in stereo, with track listings and artwork as originally released in the UK, and 'Magical Mystery Tour,' which became part of The Beatles' core catalogue when the CDs were first released in 1987. In addition, the collections 'Past Masters Vol. I and II' are now combined as one title, for a total of 14 titles over 16 discs. This will mark the first time that the first four Beatles albums will be available in stereo in their entirety on compact disc. These 14 albums, along with a DVD collection of the documentaries, will also be available for purchase together in a stereo boxed set. Within each CD's new packaging, booklets include detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes. With the exception of the 'Past Masters' set, newly produced mini-documentaries on the making of each album, directed by Bob Smeaton, are included as QuickTime files on each album. The documentaries contain archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The Beatles, offering a unique and very personal insight into the studio atmosphere.

A second boxed set has been created with the collector in mind. 'The Beatles in Mono' gathers together, in one place, all of the Beatles recordings that were mixed for a mono release. It will contain 10 of the albums with their original mono mixes, plus two further discs of mono masters (covering similar ground to the stereo tracks on 'Past Masters'). As an added bonus, the mono "Help!" and "Rubber Soul" discs also include the original 1965 stereo mixes, which have not been previously released on CD. These albums will be packaged in mini-vinyl CD replicas of the original sleeves with all original inserts and label designs retained.

Discussions regarding the digital distribution of the catalogue will continue. There is no further information available at this time.

The Stereo Albums (available individually and collected in a stereo boxed set) The stereo albums have been remastered by Guy Massey, Steve Rooke, Sam Okell with Paul Hicks and Sean Magee All CD packages contain original vinyl artwork and liner notes Extensive archival photos Additional historical notes by Kevin Howlett and Mike Heatley Additional recording notes by Allan Rouse and Kevin Howlett * = CD includes QuickTime mini-doc about the album Please Please Me* (CD debut in stereo) With The Beatles* (CD debut in stereo) A Hard Day's Night* (CD debut in stereo) Beatles For Sale* (CD debut in stereo) Help!* Rubber Soul* Revolver* Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band* (also includes 1987 notes, updated, and new intro by Paul McCartney) Magical Mystery Tour* The Beatles* Yellow Submarine* (also includes original US liner notes) Abbey Road* Let It Be* Past Masters (contains new liner notes written by Kevin Howlett) 'The Beatles in Mono' (boxed set only) The mono albums have been remastered by Paul Hicks, Sean Magee with Guy Massey and Steve Rooke Presented together in box with an essay written by Kevin Howlett + = mono mix CD debut Please Please Me With The Beatles A Hard Day's Night Beatles For Sale Help! (CD also includes original 1965 stereo mix)+ Rubber Soul (CD also include original 1965 stereo mix)+ Revolver+ Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band+ Magical Mystery Tour+ The Beatles+ Mono Masters Re-mastering the Beatles catalogue

The re-mastering process commenced with an extensive period conducting tests before finally copying the analogue master tapes into the digital medium. When this was completed, the transfer was achieved using a Pro Tools workstation operating at 24 bit 192 kHz resolution via a Prism A-D converter. Transferring was a lengthy procedure done a track at a time. Although EMI tape does not suffer the oxide loss associated with some later analogue tapes, there was nevertheless a slight build up of dust, which was removed from the tape machine heads between each title. From the onset, considerable thought was given to what audio restorative processes were going to be allowed. It was agreed that electrical clicks, microphone vocal pops, excessive sibilance and bad edits should be improved where possible, so long as it didn't impact on the original integrity of the songs. In addition, de-noising technology, which is often associated with re-mastering, was to be used, but subtly and sparingly. Eventually, less than five of the 525 minutes of Beatles music was subjected to this process. Finally, as is common with today's music, overall limiting - to increase the volume level of the CD - has been used, but on the stereo versions only. However, it was unanimously agreed that because of the importance of The Beatles' music, limiting would be used moderately, so as to retain the original dynamics of the recordings. When all of the albums had been transferred, each song was then listened to several times to locate any of the agreed imperfections. These were then addressed by Guy Massey, working with Audio Restoration engineer Simon Gibson. Mastering could now take place, once the earliest vinyl pressings, along with the existing CDs, were loaded into Pro Tools, thus allowing comparisons to be made with the original master tapes during the equalization process. When an album had been completed, it was auditioned the next day in studio three - a room familiar to the engineers, as all of the recent Beatles mixing projects had taken place in there - and any further alteration of EQ could be addressed back in the mastering room. Following the initial satisfaction of Guy and Steve, Allan Rouse and Mike Heatley then checked each new re-master in yet another location and offered any further suggestions. This continued until all 13 albums were completed to the team's satisfaction.

New Notes/Documentaries Team

Kevin Howlett (Historical and Recording Notes) Kevin Howlett's career as an award-winning radio producer spans three decades. His music programmes for the BBC have included many documentaries about The Beatles, including 'The Beeb's Lost Beatles Tapes.' He received a Grammy nomination for his involvement with The Beatles' album 'Live At The BBC' and, in 2003, produced the 'Fly On The Wall' bonus disc for 'Let It Be... Naked.'

Mike Heatley (Historical Notes) Mike entered the music business via HMV Record Stores in 1970, transferring to EMI Records' International Division three years later. He eventually headed up that division in the early Eighties before joining the company's newly created Strategic Marketing Division in 1984. In 1988, he returned to International, where he undertook a number of catalogue marketing roles until he retired in December 2008. During his career he worked with many of EMI's major artists, including Pink Floyd, Queen, Kate Bush and Iron Maiden. However, during the last 30 years he has formed a particularly strong relationship with Apple, and has been closely involved in the origination and promotion of the Beatles catalogue, besides solo releases from John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Bob Smeaton (Director, Mini-Documentaries) Bob Smeaton was series director and writer on the Grammy award winning 'Beatles Anthology' TV series which aired in the UK and the USA in 1995. In 1998 he received his second Grammy for his 'Jimi Hendrix: Band of Gypsys' documentary. In 2004 he gained his first feature film credit, as director on the feature documentary 'Festival Express.' He subsequently went on to direct documentaries on many of the world's biggest music acts including The Who, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Elton John, Nirvana and the Spice Girls.

Julian Caiden (Editor, Mini-Documentaries) Julian has worked with Bob Smeaton on numerous music documentaries including 'Jimi Hendrix: Band of Gypsys' and the 'Classic Albums' series, featuring The Who, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Elton John and Nirvana among others. He has worked on documentary profiles from Richard Pryor to Dr. John to Sir Ian McKellen, Herbie Hancock and Damien Hirst and on live music shows including the New York Dolls and Club Tropicana.

The Abbey Road Team Allan Rouse (Project Coordinator) Allan joined EMI straight from school in 1971 at their Manchester Square head office, working as an assistant engineer in the demo studio. During this time he frequently worked with Norman (Hurricane) Smith, The Beatles' first recording engineer.

In 1991, he had his first involvement with The Beatles, copy¬ing all of their master tapes (mono, stereo, 4-track and 8-track) to digital tape as a safety backup. This was followed by four years working with Sir George Martin as assistant and project coordinator on the TV documentary 'The Making of Sgt. Pepper's' and the CDs 'Live at the BBC' and 'The Anthol¬ogy.'

In 1997, MGM/UA were preparing to reissue the film 'Yellow Submarine' and, with the permission of Apple, asked that all of The Beatles' music be mixed for the film in 5.1 surround and stereo. Allan requested the services of Abbey Road's senior engineer Peter Cobbin and assistant Guy Massey and, along with them, produced the new mixes. Two years later, he proposed an experimental stereo and surround mix of John Lennon's song 'Imagine' engineered by Peter Cobbin. Following lengthy consultations with Yoko Ono, the album 'Imagine' was re-mixed in stereo and the Grammy award-winning film 'Gimme Some Truth' in surround and new stereo. This led to a further five of John's albums being re-mastered with new stereo mixes and the DVD release of 'Lennon Legend' being re-mixed in 5.1 surround and new stereo.

Further projects followed, including The Beatles 'Anthol¬ogy', 'The First US Visit' and 'Help' DVD and the albums 'Let It Be...Naked' and 'Love' along with George Harrison's 'Concert for Bangladesh' DVD and album. For a number of years now, Allan has worked exclusively on Beatles and related projects.

Guy Massey (Recording Engineer) Guy joined Abbey Road in 1994, and five years later assisted on the surround remix for The Beatles film 'Yellow Submarine.' This led to The Beatles' 'Anthology' DVD and later, along with Paul Hicks and Allan Rouse, they mixed and produced 'Let It Be... Naked.' In 2004 he left the studios to become freelance and has engineered The Divine Comedy: 'Victory for the Comic Muse,' Air Traffic: 'Fractured Life,' James Dean Bradfield: 'The Great Western' and Stephen Fretwell's 'Magpie,' co-producing the last two. Since leaving, Guy is still a vital member of the team, and has been the senior engineer for the re-mastering project and was responsible for surround and new stereo mixes for the DVD release of 'Help!'

Steve Rooke (Mastering Engineer) Steve joined Abbey Road in 1983 and is now the studio's senior mastering engineer. He has been involved on all The Beatles' projects since 1999. He has also been responsible for mastering releases by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Paul Hicks (Recording Engineer) Paul started at Abbey Road in 1994, and his first involvement with The Beatles was assisting engineer Geoff Emerick on the Anthology albums. This was followed by 'Yellow Submarine Songtrack,' 'Anthology' DVD and 'Let It Be... Naked.' Like Guy Massey, he has also become a freelance engineer and since leaving the studios he has been responsible for the surround mixing of Paul McCartney's DVD 'The McCartney Years' and The Beatles' 'Love.' Paul has been in charge of the mono re-masters.

Sean Magee (Mastering Engineer) Sean began working at Abbey Road in 1995 with a diploma in sound engineering. With a wealth of knowledge in analog and digital mastering, he has worked alongside Paul Hicks on the mono re-masters.

Sam Okell (Recording Engineer) Sam's first job as a member of the team was in 2006, assisting Paul Hicks on Paul McCartney's DVD 'The McCartney Years,' and during that same year he was responsible for the re-mastering of George Harrison's 'Living In The Material World' CD along with Steve Rooke. This led to him restoring the soundtrack to the Beatles film 'Help!' in surround and stereo, in addition to assisting Guy Massey with the song remixes.

Sam has re-mastered 'With The Beatles' and 'Let It Be.'

Simon Gibson (Audio Restoration Engineer) Simon joined Abbey Road in 1990. He has progressed from mastering mostly classical recordings to include a much wider range of music, including pop and rock, with his specialized role as an audio restoration engineer. Apart from the re-mastering project, his other work includes George Harrison's 'Living In The Material World,' John Lennon's 'Lennon Legend,' The Beatles' 'Love' and the 'Help!' DVD soundtrack.

Yeah, what he said. I was in an FYE (in beautiful Mentor, Ohio) last weekend and had these in my hand, but I didn't even consider buying them 'cause I hadn't heard the fixed versions were coming out. Is it possible the new ones are on the shelves already?

New Order do not have the budget that The Beatles have, they just won't sell in the same quantity.

I emailed Rhino about this Sunday night and this is the reply that I got, one thing I can say about Rhino is that they have always been helpful...

"Thank you for your email. I have recently been informed that the replacement New Order discs will become available in late April/early May. I will contact you at that time with information on receiving a replacement disc. Also at that time, the 5 albums will be re-released to retail with upgraded audio. I do not believe that the packaging will be distinguishable from the original releases. However, if you do receive any defective copies, I can send your replacement discs.

Thank you for your patience.

Or... I could just not buy these. Dr. Rhino should know by now that I have no patience. Like I said above, I had 'em in my hands last week and would have bought 'em if I had some way of knowing.

Thanks very much for the info, though. I can't say I get the business sense: release something that's for a limited audience in the first place, and then chisel down that audience even more by making them jump through hoops to get the non-defective version of the product. :nonono:

So let me get this straight - if you never bought the Remasters in the first place (because of the well documented faults) and you now wish to buy the new versions you have to purchase them on Amazon (or the like) and hope that they send the right versions???!!! When you find it's the wrong version you have no proof on the packaging to tell Amazon that it's the wrong version. You might have to email them and say "can you hear the vinyl surface noise on track 6 etc".

I suppose I might have to actually go to a record shop and demand a listen (anyone know of any still open record shops in the UK??). What a palaver - how difficult would it be to put a sticker on the front saying "Ver.2" etc ?

They are really not encouraging me to part with money on these releases. Of course if a torrent title read "Lossless new version remaster" - then at least you would know what you were getting and I guess more people would be tempted by that as an easy option.

To add to the confusion:

I recently came up to a promo of Movement Collectors Edition on discogs.com

There are various names involved in the 'remaster-project' of those 5 Factory-albums, although I can barely read it properly. Anyone can ?!

If we can read these names, maybe we can ask Rhino about what they did/do in the first place to 'repair' these discs audiowise.

There's not a whole lot of point as different people have been involved since.

Hopefully someone will put the record straight as to the process involved in getting these second versions together etc, otherwise I expect everyone will go on about it endlessly on here.

Well, amazon no longer lists it as in stock. So hopefully when they get it back in stock it will be the new re-remastered version.

Movement and Brotherhood are on Amazon UK with a release date of 15 Jun 2009. There is no mention if these are fixed versions or what. Honestly i'm losing interest in this debarcle if they can't even be bothered updating us on the situation on the front page here they can shove them up there arses.

Of course they are the fixed versions, the originals were not re-pressed and never will be.

I'm not too sure they will publicize this episode too much, you don't really want to advertise your mistakes do you?

I just hope there will be a clear way to distinguish them when ordering from webshops, buying in stores, etc...I really really want to buy the damn things, but I'm definitely not going to risk getting the old ones...

Hopefully a new UPC code?

Let's pray they have restored the artwork mistakes too. Lately, I saw the original Brotherhood cover (Titaanzink) on the Rhino site, so, that's 1 of the 300 mistakes cleared.

Ofcourse we don't want to see '1983' on the spine of the 'Lowlife' Collectors Edition. :nono:

Looking forward to it ... :thumb:

Personally I'm glad they are not requiring mail in of the discs, given the added expense and potential for the discs to be lost in the mail.

Hopefully the theft/fraud will be minimal.

Dr. Rhino answer the question above for me:

The news reissues are the ones with the corrected audio.

http://www.rhino.com/store/ArtistCatalog.lasso?Artist=New%20Order

Please note: Our production department has recently reminded me that, in accordance with our initial statement, only the bonus discs of each New Order reissue have been corrected. The exception to this is disc one of Technique.

So, what I want to know is if the first disc of each release was faulty too..

I'll try to get down to the Tower Records in Shibuya this weekend to take a peek at the Japanese re-releases and report back to everyone, if nobody does it before me.

But it's doubtful I'll actually pick them up--from the looks of the website they're about twice as expensive as the US/UK versions.

For once, it may be much better to import :p

Unless there's a bonus booklet or something of the sort, which isn't totally out of the question...

I checked out the Japanese re-reissues at Tower Records this past weekend. It appears the track listing/date typos have been fixed (the ones I could see on the sleeve, at least--I wasn't able to read the insert booklet).

Since they're priced at about $35 each, I'll just order the UK/US versions. I can confirm there are no bonus tracks, and there don't seem to be any bonus booklets.

Also got a chance to listen to CD2 of Technique--it sounded pretty good to me!!

The date of © & (p) on the Digipak is 2008. Comes shrink-wrapped in plastic with a sticker about "Contains Everything's Gone Green" and two other titles. Does not have one of those "Collector's Edition" plastic sleeves.

The only reissues of 2009 that I know are these fucking useless vinyl and the very expensive Japanese CDs.

Any US fellow will be able to help us poor european lads when they'll have their re-remasters ??

Anybody get these in the U.S. yet? They're supposed to be released tomorrow. I haven't received my replacement discs in the mail for three of them, two of the others I didn't purchase.

It looks like the only site carrying them is Rhino, so we'll have to pay full price there. Amazon, cduniverse, etc. do not have them. Allmusic.com shows 2009 release dates, but it appears the UPCs have not changed. I was told by "Dr. Rhino" that they would be released to the public again, but it seems that if tomorrow is still the release date they are concealed to us customers.

This is a good deal and includes free shipping to the USA, I ordered mine yesterday, it comes out to $99 us dollars but includes all 5 Vinyl's.

I purchased the corrected versions from The Ideal Copy in the US. I have not checked all discs but I have checked many things and do not hear any errors. One physical error is that the labels on the Low-life CDs are swapped. Does anyone else have a Low-life copy like this? It's disappointing to me that the Eschreamer Dub of True Faith was included instead of the True Dub.

Unfortunately, they've released them in the US and Japan only, no sign of a UK date as yet...

Which is bizarre considering they're an English band... :banghead:

It's about time these were released. Just ordered them from Rhino. Does anyone know if there's plans to remaster and release Substance and Republic?

We don't need a remastered Substance really. Only the re-recorded Confusion and Temptation is interesting for a remaster (although you can find a remaster of Confusion 1987 on International (2002) if you want). The rest we already have in various quantities.

Although I like to see a remastered Temptation 1987, otherwise I have to rip it off the DVD 'A Collection'.

The french version of "International" hada remastered Temptation 1987. If you'd like a flac or MP3, message me.

No I don't like loudness or compressed mess ... I like dynamics, so here's hoping that a future remastered version of the song does justice to the dynamics, otherwise I don't need another and will stick to Substance.

So, any first hand reports on what is actually different? They actually re-did anything? Change any tracks/order? We need graphs!!!

And any way to tell externally (from the cover or labels) which version is new and improved, and which is more half assed? Hopefully they use their whole ass this time*

I wrote Dr Rhino. See if he hooks me up.

What about the cover to Brotherhood? Have they fixed it and returned to the original cover, or is it still that wavy abomination?

Point taken. But still, I want Republic remastered. They remastered the first 5 albums, and Get Ready and WFTSC obviously don't need remastering. But they left out Republic.....wut up wit dat, son????

What needs remastering about Republic? Sounds just fine. All you'll get is a slightly louder and more trebly mix.

WFTSC certainly needs it though, it's limited to f**k on the CD and is horribly loud, maybe they should use the vinyl master for the CD next time.

There's a new booklet in with the fixed versions, don't know if you can tell from the outside though.

Tracks on the second discs are all the same, all resourced from original tapes, mastered, and properly named this time.

So, now that these discs are out has anyone actually received their replacement discs from Rhino?

The last email I got from Rhino was on July 7, after I sent them the photos they requested.

So what you're saying is that Low-Life still has "Shame of the Nation" while Brotherhood still has that really bad modern remix of "True Faith" that was supposed to be "True Dub", then "BM-88 Dub" instead of "Beach Buggy"? No seven inch "Run 2" or "MTO" for Technique either?

Can anyone confirm this?

It would appear so, looking at the scans above...

Hello, I've just joined the site, as I googled any information on the remasters and came up with this thread, which was very helpful. I had ordered the corrected remasters from the Ideal Copy (which I use for hard to get and/or delicately packaged items that Amazon makes a mess of) and made an enquiry yesterday. Here's what Chris Bonham replied, with the details of how they can tell the re-remasters apart.

Your New Order corrected remasters are here and on hold for you. They are set to ship when the Cult Omnibus arrives, which was supposed to be this week, but it looks like it's running late, so next week at the earliest. If you want a split shipment, let us know - it may cost a little more.

You should tell the web chat rooms that you visit, that idealcopy.com HAS the corrected remasters. And they should buy them from us. If someone buys them from an online company that just doesn't know about the situation or if it's run by robots, they very well could get the uncorrected remasters, since the upc codes are the same for both versions. The packaging for the US corrected versions of the is slightly different than the original release. So, that's how we can tell. We even had a regular customer who bought a set directly from Rhino.com recently - they sent him the uncorrected versions! He returned them to Rhino and then bought them from us.<<<

Hope that helps people.

Dr. Rhino must be very busy doing other things, since it hard to get a reply it appears.

You would think that Rhino would at least communicate with this site to tell what is up, so at least people can know they are buying the improved version, and improve public relations. Fans are not going to buy them if they are confused. Thou I suppose they are not very happy with the cost of replacing discs and want to be rather quiet about it. But then they went to the bother of "fixing" them somewhat.... so make up your mind Rhino.

As I mentioned in a different thread (the Low-life artwork debacle) the fact Rhino have released the fixed remasters to some US or Japanese stores to sell but not yet sorted out an exchange program for people worldwide who have have already paid for the original duds is scandalous.

The exchange program should have been announced and in full operation before stores began selling the corrected ones. I suspect they're trying to cash in on some hardcore fans who may not bother waiting and end up buying the new ones as well as owning the faulty originals. I'm not gonna do that, they should've been done right the first time and I'm not parting with any more cash. Buy 10 CDs twice?! Fuck off.

So there

Dr Rhino is the contact for the US Rhino site. You probably want to contact Rhino UK for their plans.

The US Rhino site has text for all the releases that indicates "If you have previously received the 2008 issue of this title and would like to request a corrected replacement bonus disc, please contact Dr. Rhino at drrhino@rhino.com."

I've found them to be pretty prompt in their replies, but I'm still waiting for the replacements.

Just received discs in the mail from Rhino US. They only sent the bonus discs from each album and another copy of Technique (which had no problem with it really).

A lot of the labels on the tracks have been fixed but some are not (Example Mesh + Cries and Whispers are actually labeled properly, Run 2 still says just Run 2 with no indication of it being the 12 inch version) Still plain white and has a copyright date of 2008. Still no True Dub or Beach Buggy they labeled them for what they were on the first set.

They fixed the channel swap on Ceremony, finally...

So Lowlife will still have that bad volume drop during sunrise they couldn't even be arsed to fix it

Honestly I don't even care if they fixed all the clicking at this point it was such a waste.

50 Pound and Bruno's Recycle project blows this completely away still

I sent my original complaint back in early July and went back and forth with them sending pictures and they confirmed they would send them to me when "they became available."

I sent Dr. Rhino an email I think about 2 weeks ago asking what the status was and never got a reply then they were in my mailbox today, just the 6 discs in paper sleeves.

Hi all,

First post, but long time visitor of this wonderful site.

I've got a particularly vexing question related to the infamous Rhino remasters, especially as the US re-remastered re-releases (talk about stilted) are now out. Has anyone here gotten ahold of them? How's the mastering on the albums themselves? I care slightly less about the bonus discs (thanks in no small part to 50 Pound Note and Bruno's spectacular job, my greatest thanks to all involved) but I have the original CD presses and was considering upgrading to the new remasters, so long as the sound on the albums isn't TOO awful.

The Ideal Copy has a special deal on the albums (5-pack at a discount) and are throwing in a poster to boot. Are they worth springing the money for, do you think?

Thanks very much in advance and glad to be here!

Well - at least in the US - there's a really easy way to identify the fixed reissues - they don't have an outer slipcase. I'm halfway convinced that was a cynical ploy from the label to get rid of the old crappy ones. "Ooh, this one has a slipcase - I want that one!"

I was in Amoeba this afternoon and couldn't help myself. I bought Lowlife and Technique.

They *look* nice, however, the Lowlife album proper was printed as the bonus disc and vice-versa. Hooray for quality control! You know, if you took a whole year to fix this debacle and only 10 total CDs were involved, don't you think you could at least get the surfaces printed correctly?

Each package contains an extra booklet that wasn't in the first run which has the tracklisting and credits for each 2xCD set.

The audio mastering is compressed all to hell. They sound clear and all, but also no dynamics. They make my ears hurt.

So after all this time and all this hassle the main albums STILL sound WORSE then the original CD releases from the 1980s? That's sort of sad. The misprints and typos are simply inexcusable, even by the admittedly already low standards they've set themselves.

The new discs are here and they sound like crap. I honestly think they took the messed up audio and reworked it instead of starting from scratch as it sounds even more compressed now. The highs are too high yet the rest of it is muddy and there is no clean bass. This is the case on most of the discs. And for Rhino to send one sticker with these discs is really fucking shitty. Send no sticker or send me a coupon for 20 bucks. Do not send me something that costs 5 cents.

Rhino is getting good laughs I think. The more we whine, the more they'll re-remaster.

Considering how everyone's been bashing them on this forum for an entire year now, I can only assume this and the Tall Paul Mix of "True Faith" still remaining are simply out of spite.

So who here is going to create the Re-Remasters error thread? Rhino must really love the publicity they've been getting here. Perhaps it's a conceptual piece they're pulling on us.

As with almost any modern release or remaster there has been a degree of limiting applied, it seems unavoidable these days. I've looked at a few waveforms and it's not as bad as on Singles and WFTSC so at least that's something.

...well these last few posts have finally made up my mind on these remasters. I won't be buying any of these remasters.

I'll keep my original Factory CDs - I have recently upgraded my Hi-Fi and now realise that the original discs are really not that bad. OK so they are quiet sounding but it's not too difficult - after all - to dial in a little more volume!

I have a full set of needledrops of the original UK 12" Singles made on a Linn Turntable - so the remaster bonus discs are pretty redundant for me as well.

What an appalling wasted opportunity these remaster discs are. This week I have been enjoying the Beatles remasters -which demonstrate how major labels can get remasters right if they want to. I guess New Order are pretty low on Rhino's list of priorities given the shoddy treatment they have been given. Sending a cheap free sticker with the replacement discs is an insult.

Just an FYI that my replacement discs arrived over the weekend (12 September) from Rhino US. I received the bonus discs for all five albums, plus a replacement for "Technique."

I reside in the US, but had actually purchased the London/Rhino UK editions. I had sent Rhino US pictures of my five "Collector's Editions" albums and received all the replacements, despite them being UK editions. While I would of course rather have UK manufactured replacements, I figured this was my only opportunity to get the corrected discs at no charge.

Rhino UK has yet to respond to any of inquiries on the replacements. It sounds like others have had similar experiences.

Anyone in the UK got these replacements yet? If so, how? Also, I've read the booklets have been changed too - did you receive these?

Got my replacement bonus discs today (for Movement & PCL).

One thing I noticed: the opening mix for Temptation 7" sounds different between the original remaster and the replacement remaster. It also seems like L/R channels have been swapped between the two versions. I don't have the original 7" to know for sure which is the accurate version, but I suspect the version on the original remaster is incorrect in terms of the channels, based on comparing with the 12" version. (However, no one seemed to flag that as an error previously so I could be wrong).

Mesh has a lot more tape hiss at the beginning. That's just an observation - not a complaint as I am not a fan of unnecessary hiss removal at the expense of the music.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this. but might the new issues have (c) 2009 on the huge white cover sticker, whereas the original batch have (c) 2008?

Just a stab in the dark, but that might clear things up (you'd expect Rhino to differentiate them in this way at the very least).

Finally got my 'replacement discs'. Er.. what about Low Life? and the extra booklet in the new versions would have been nice. Haven't listened to everything yet but a few things cropped up that may be of interest.

1-Murder. there is a random tape noise at the start and barney counting 1-2-3-4. that may prove that they found the original tapes for some of these tracks.

2-the beach. very weird start. it was odd anyway so maybe this is what it should sound like. also ten seconds shorter.

3-Temptation 12" - Longer than usual at 8:57.

the remastering is a definite improvement on the original batch but a little too much limiting as predicted. i bet some sources were from the substance dat or something! look forward to hearing about the other differences/fuck ups!

No. Apparently the main difference is that the old batch came in those clear plastic slipcovers thingies and the new batch don't have those. Also the new ones come with a second little booklet listing all the remasters in the series.

The Beach sounds different to the one that we are familiar with. I've not listened to the remastered and original versions side by side (yet) but there are several differences and 'mistakes' such as at the beginning and places where the bass sequencer suddenly appears, at 3.40 mins for example. It sounds to me like demo or a rough mix that was then edited again for the final version.

Hmmm.. if it's not yet another mastering error, it sounds worth getting, then, after all! That would mean they actually did go back to master from original tapes, after all. Anybody able to confirm?

Course they did. In this case it sounds like they accidently got a different take or mixdown or just an unfinished version.

In case anyone is interested. The remasters have appeared in Australian stores recently.

I asked my trusted music retailer if these were the new re-remasters. He said he didn't know.

After much debate and reading on this forum, I went ahead and purchased Low Life.

The spine still reads P 1983, but the sticker at the front reads P 1985, as do the discs. Which by the way have the correct labels.

2 different stores had slightly different packaging. One had the plastic Collector's Editions slipcase and one didn't. I bought the one with the plastic Collector's slipcase (from my trusted retailer, as he said I could return it if it was crap). It contains the second booklet too, which makes me think it's the re-remaster.

The first disc still has the channel drop out on Sunrise.

The second disc sounds like the re-remaster. What I have listened to so far, all the clicks have gone. The disc does sound like the bass was turned up.

All in all not a bad little package, and quite cheap too at AU$22. It would have been nice if disc 1 had all the necessary corrections done too.

Yes, JB (City Store) have just put the remasters on the shelves a couple of weeks ago.

This is the second round of remasters I've seen, with the obviously faulty ones appearing in Big Star on Rundle Street last year. Big Star still has their there, unsold, going for AU$50.

and yet I've seen none in Manchester. Are they out in the UK at all?

Cool, might pay a visit after work tonight :)

Might be bad news for those who want replacement discs...

The Rhino records arm of Warners reportedly just completed a huge wave of layoffs this week, as part of the whole record companies dying thing. So no wonder Rhino has been so quiet, a lot of them are losing their jobs.

I would expect that this will be bad news for those who want replacement discs, since the customer service already was barely existent before. This also might mean less future half assed rereleases/compilations. Will the WFTSC leftovers be released now by Warners, maybe just digital. Who knows?

As far as I'm aware, having just received the replacement re-remasters from Rhino, all they (Warner UK) fixed were all the bonus discs and the Technique main disc.

There are no official re-remasters of the first four main albums, right?

Though I'd love to hear the unofficial versions if some kind soul can point me in the right direction.

The remasters available in Australia, especially JBHiFi are the original error riddled 2008 versions. I bought them all today and compared them with the originals and the differences revealed in this thread.

I've written to Dr Rhino requesting replacements.

How annoying.

The latest:

"Dear New Order Fan,

Thank you for your email and your patience. Your replacement request is currently being processed and your replacement discs will ship out within 10 business days.

We apologize for the delay and thank you again for your patience.

Just sent this to Dr Rhino, in response to a message telling me that the replacement 5 bonus discs and 'Technique' will be sent to me in 5 working days:

I'm told on the New Order forum that each of the new versions of these remasters come with an extra booklet that has the tracklisting and credits for each 2xCD set - please ensure that these are also included with my replacement discs.I am also told that 'Low-life' has a stereo channel drop-out during the track 'Sunrise' fixed on the new versions. Please also ensure I receive a replacement copy of this disc, along with the 5 bonus discs and 'Technique'.

I'll let you know what reply I get.

Not to be an annoying twat, but whats wrong with Disc 1 on Technique?

The Sound Foundation wrote: The Beach sounds different to the one that we are familiar with. I've not listened to the remastered and original versions side by side (yet) but there are several differences and 'mistakes' such as at the beginning and places where the bass sequencer suddenly appears, at 3.40 mins for example. It sounds to me like demo or a rough mix that was then edited again for the final version.

Good catch. Noticed it just a couple hours ago whilst driving to work.

Haven't got them yet but was planning to until now :( Are there any telltale signs on the label / packaging that I should look for so I don't get the duds?

Checked out my local JB Hi-Fi (Gold Coast) and indeed they do have the 2008 pressings at A$21.99, but I'll skip those and find the 2009 versions somewhere (hopefully). That pisses me off, there will be unsuspecting fans out here about to get shafted, they should have been recalled and destroyed imo.

The JB versions have the new booklets, and the discs have the updated text on them, but the music is the old remasters.

fuckers.

It's bloody fraudulent

Given that they weren't available here on release Rhino are obviously unloading these on an unsuspecting Aussie market. Boo Rhino, Boo JBs!

LIke I've mentioned on other thread (Log file - error...etc..) those remasters priced at AU$22 at JB Hifi are still the 'faulty' ones. You have to look for those priced at AU$44.95 at JB Hifi & these have 'Reissue c.2009' printed on the digipak's spine. 2 weeks ago, I found both versions (AU$22 & AU$45) of the remasters at JB Hifi Sydney store in Galleries Victoria. I am quite confident those AU$45 ones are 'corrected' versions as they distinctly have diff spine notes. I didnt bother buying those 'corrected' ones though as I already have all of those 'faulty' ones. I'm still intending to write to Dr.Rhino....one fine day...when the planets align....:p

Cheers mate. Saw some in my local JBs today for the first time - weird how some come in the Collectors Edition slipcase and some don't

To my fellow Aussie NO enthusiasts, thanks for this info. I had just returned from JB in the city feeling triumphant over the purchase of three re-masters, having been assured by staff that these are the re-issues. I must admit I was somewhat dubious because the spine still said 2008. All I can say is that I am glad I haven't opened them yet and will be returning them pronto. It indeed looks like Rhino have tried to pull the wool over our eyes Down Under by trying to off-load these duds but fortunately there is vigilance amongst us!

Fellow Aussies, any news on 2009 versions?

Hélène's friend wrote: TLU (instrumental) 2008 : 6'57 TLU (instrumental) 2009 : 6'39

The original TLU instrumental on the flipside of Murder is 6:57. The '86 remixed instrumental on the US Shellshock single is 6:39, so they've got it wrong - they pulled the wrong mix.

Hey now, they actually sent me 6 replacement discs. 32 days after I sent in an e-mail with a picture of the original CDs. So expect a month long wait, shipped in the United States.

The replacement discs look exactly the same, except for name changes, so don't get them mixed up. Ceremony 12" second version is now called "Alt" version for example. Tempation 12" is 5 seconds longer. Did they slow it down? Sounds less high pitched and better, maybe my imagination.

Do I save the "bad" discs? So sort of lame collector's item?

Temptation 12" has a bit more fade-in

Can somebody suggest a place online where I can purchase Movement and Power, Corruption & Lies that are the 2009 corrected versions? I can't find a place that specifically states that they're selling the corrected versions. I'm not looking for just replacement discs, but to buy both 2CD sets.

Those links are all very well for people living in North America but no use to people living in the rest of the world as they will have to pay high import duty fees. I would like to know if there is anywhere in the UK you can actually buy these fixed versions. Considering they are are a British band makes this even more of a bad joke.

Indeed - I had to get my replacement CD's sent from America too...

I can confirm that the corrected versions DO NOT have the clear plastic "Collectors Edition" slipcase. Bought Movement and PC&L last night at Silver Platters (retail record store in Seattle), and they were the corrected versions. I also noticed on a sticker on the front a item number differed between versions with and without the slipcase.

can anyone in Australia confirm the ones that have slowly been appearing in shops are the new remasters

not ian wrote: can anyone in Australia confirm the ones that have slowly been appearing in shops are the new remasters

I've resisted buying the remasters locally for the same reasons, I don't wanna buy the old crappy original remasters either.

So any info on an Aussie supply is more than welcome.

Bought some new headphones and tested them out with The Beach remastered on Spotify, It's a bit different. The bass sequencer keeps coming in at random places elsewhere than the original and the track fades out instead of ending like it begins. Also on Murder was surprised to hear Bernard say 1234 before the start which isn't included on the original.Exciting times eh?
