One forum I visit had a three day period after you signed up before you could start a thread, maybe you could implement something like that...
We can probably on the new system have "moderation" for new users... but this is an old custom system, so it's not built for that.
Never had issues in 8 years running it... it's a bit frustrating that suddently people want to spam us. And this site does validate their email! so they are human... not bots.
I'd also try and shut down some of the forums that aren't used any more (apart from spam) - i.e. "Buy/Trade/Sell" - that's 90% spam, as nobody bothers to moderate it anymore...
There's this forum I go to, that requires a private (Internet, college, work, etc) email in other to register. You could try that?

Sounds like an alright idea.. although its possibly a reason why people sign up in the first place, i.e. to start a thread about NO. I was purely a 'reader' of this site for a long time.
Another possible one is that you have to make 10 posts before you can start a thread. If you can unlock the weeding forum after 100 posts, then why cant you unlock the thread-starting button...
Alright i just cleaned Buy/Sell/Trade.
As you can see I visit that forum often 
Oh well. Seems that guy created a tons of account to post his crap, I will see if it comes from the same IP and ban it.
There's not so many of them that a quick run through to delete each day would be enough.
Properly deleting luxuriance posts, rather than just deleting the text, would make a big difference as well.
Well, you'll also need to delete the nik3c user account - a persistent bugger that one! :)

Most people have the ability to ignore the crap anyway - it's no big deal.

How many new members join in a week? Would it be a big job for someone to validate them all personally?
Since you aren't always here, please give some people the ability to delete accounts rather than just deleting posts..perhaps, we could get rid of that "other" trouble-maker...

Problem is.. the person doing this is probably doing this to be indexed by google.. not for the people on here.
And as for giving powers, it's a custom board, hence why it's complicated.

Maybe you could set up a separate section where new people can post and restrict all the other boards. Then allow them to post on all the others after say 25 posts. This will also eliminate threads like “I love blue Monday” and “is there a chance of a reunion?”
