New Order 7" Release For Upcoming Record Store Day

(because some of us still like to interact with others when buying some of our tunes......)

noticed on a couple of music blogs about the upcoming Record Store Day that New Order have been confirmed as having a release on the 18th of April, a 7" single of Temptation c/w Hurt. Couldn't come across any info as to what mixes will be on the vinyl, forgive me but I couldn't even find any info at the "other" site, doubtless this news will be just what some die-hard collectors like. (Myself, I've always loved singles, one of our local stores was giving away a 7" of She's Lost Control c/w Dead Souls for buying the Control soundtrack).

Hopefully I'll be buying a copy or four of that single next month, I could also certainly use a copy of that Pavement live album, the Jesus Lizard singles box set and the Thrill Jockey compilation, the confirmed list of artists is HERE.

This is true. The 7" is through Rhino. I don't know if it is limited or not (e.g. the Sonic Youth/Beck split 7" is limited to just 2500 copies for Record Store Day).

I also know that Temptation was listed as being Live. I don't know where it was recorded and/or which version it is.

I was able to see the actual full release list from my local indie music store today, and there will be some pretty sweet items hitting stores that day.

I believe it's supposed to be a repressing of the original 7" in similar blue speckled sleeve.

I am so going to go to Record Store Day and get the album! I wish that I bought the 12x12 vinyl set, though.

It is kind of sad that the best news about our favorite band we have in ages is the (re-)release of a simple 7".

Well, at least it is something........

I'm sure this is of no interest to anyone anywhere, but the last thing I read last night was an article about vinyl mastering in Music Tech magazine. And this post is the first thing I read this morning.

Which is also odd, 'cause I was driving around yesterday telling my daughter how I used to buy 7-inch singles at Kmart or wherever, and what an event that was. You'd hear Disco Duck or something on the radio (AM, thank you), then hit the store to see if they had it in the rack: it was a special trip, and you came home "carrying" the song with you in a bag. The conversation started 'cause she was telling me how she liked CDs, because you get artwork and such you don't get with downloads. Hah!

Times change, but it was always special.

You're confusing this with the Blue Monday cutout 12" release.

I am curious if this reissue will be 45 rpm or 33 1/3 like the original. Apparently back in 1982, the original caught radio DJ's off guard when they aired it at the wrong speed.

...well radio DJs don't count for anything these days, also they'd play it off a CD or hard drive now (and that's if they'd bother to play it in the first place).

Somebody at the record company noticed there were a bunch of spots all over the cover art, and the song masters had all the low end freq. missing, so they delayed the single because didn't want to release another low quality re-issue and piss you guys off.

I got one. Its a 7" of Temptation / Hurt. Haven't had a chance to play it yet but it looks like a pretty exact copy of the original. Nothing to indicate its a 2009-for-one-day-only special, or anything. Lazy.

I'll take it. Since I am in Ohio my record store probably won't have it. "Who Order?? Are they anything like The Killers??"

I got a copy as well...looks like a copy, even has all the "Factory" notations. Mine has a sticker on the front that calls out Rhino, but no mention of it being limited or for "record Store" day either...Oh well, I'll throw it into the collection for $5. My local shop only received a single copy.

think I got the only one in Charlotte NC.

What kind of record store? Any half way decent indie record store will know who New Order and Joy Division are. Are there any old style record stores still alive around Dayton University area? Dayton has had a good indie band history with bands like Guided by Voices, Brainiac, and Kim Deal from the Pixies and Breeders.

hmmm, no singles made it out this way apparently, so I had to make do with the Tom Waits and Flight Of The Conchords singles, along with the live Pavement vinyl. It was funny, talking to the clerks about New Order, the second topic of conversation was the disappointing job on their studio album reissues. It wasn't just the fans on this board taking notes then. :D

BTW, with Borders pricing out the majority of their CD stock at 50% off, I was able to buy the Still reissue for 12.50 yesterday.

I went to Gem City Records and they had at least heard of New Order although they didn't seem to know anything. They said they received one copy of the Temptation vinyl but it went fast, some dude got it in the morning. I ended up with Wrong by Depeche Mode, and tons of used CD's in a buy-2-get-1 sale, including Republic and Get Ready.

I did my bit,went to the hallowed mecca that is Piccadilly Records in Mancland,not just to get the single,but to support said shop as I have been a visitor for almost 30 years covering it's 3 addresses.I compared the new one to the original & it is significantly different,darker sleeve for a start,no embossed printing on either side & the label is a variation on the original,smaller print and a different design,also reads 'Manufactured & marketed by Rhino Custom Products' around the edge.I thank you

They didn't duplicate the groove notation either.

Got mine - Badlands in Cheltenham had quite a few copies still. No stickers on mu copy, just Fac number on vinyl.

So what version of the song is it? They should've damn well put Temptation '98.

Can anyone please just let us know what is on the single--the original 7, the 87, live, 98 version? I didn't see this one on record store day, my shop only gets what I call ahead for and I (oops) didn't...so no Smiths 7 for me either, but at least I got the SY/Beck 7. I always wanted to mix the temptation 7 into the 12 and see if they actually do blend together for one long mix....

I haven't got the record, but if I was a betting man, it's s straight reissue of the original 7"! :)

For the Discogs trainspotters that care about this sort of thing, it appears that the US and UK/Europe versions of the Temptation Record Store Day 7" are slightly different. First up, as some have already noticed, the US edition has a sticker with a barcode on it - the UK edition has no sticker. Aside from the sticker on the US edition, the US copies have gray labels, while the UK/Europe copies have alabaster (very pale yellow) labels. Also, the US edition has FAC 0063 etched in the labels with a Rhino catalogue number. The UK edition has different run-out groove/matrix etchings.

It appears that there were two pressings for each market. Lastly, I have noticed torn/ripped labels on quite a few of the UK copies.

No CD version then? I mean, Lonesome Tonight 7" is finally available on CD, but I don't think we've already got Hurt, did we?
