Peter Saville Sdtk treated with more passion than Control Sdtk?

When I first heard new Order was scoring Control, I was pretty excited to hear some new music that would be moving and emotional - a turn from the more recent "pop" sound the band is more known for. Maybe a return to the sound of Movement-era New Order. Though, I do like the music New Order did for Control - I was a little disappointed that it was only about 3 minutes worth. Plus the mastering on the Soundtrack - may be the worst mastering ever!

The Peter Saville Soundtrack - however- is 30 minutes of some of the most beautiful music I have heard the band put together in a very long time. Though Bernard was not involved with the Saville soundtrack, i hate to say it, it sounds like the band put more passion into the Saville piece than the movie they scored about Ian. Maybe Control was a little too close to home.

Plus I'll go as far as saying that the Saville soundtrack is probably my favorite thing the band has done since Technique. Though, I do quite like the Guilt Remixes Single.

Passion? I don't see it. I personally found it to be rather emotionless aural wallpaper. Lot more interesting "ambient house" out there in the last 20 years. Does have some Hooky added to it, which is always a good thing thou.

I definitely appreciate your critique, maybe its because I actually didn't see the Saville film, but only have the soundtrack I view it the way i do. Passion, may have been the wrong term. Basically the point I was making - was 3 minutes of music for Control and 30 minutes of music for a film about the guy who did their album covers.

Well, they were asked by whoever was doing the Saville exhibition (don't know if Saville asked them personally or not) to provide a soundtrack... I assume by it's nature it was suppossed to be more than a few minutes long. Apparently Bernard blew them off for whatever reasons he felt like giving. Steve has a backgroup in soundtracks so it is assumed he did most of it, unless he had help from a studio hand who filled out the length. Hooky seemed to add some playing, whether written for this project specifically or not, don'tr know. Maybe somebody knows for sure what was actually done.

The Control soundtrack is kinda odd because the news at the time was that the band was excited about basically adding new "joy division" music to the project. Then there was a report of Hooky being miffed at Corbin over the music. The end result does not sound like the band was all that inspired, but was there music that was written for the movie that never saw the light of day? Maybe, maybe not.
