The Manics always seem to be bitter about having nothing to be bitter about any more. They can't troll out their old, teenage complaints about the music industry not caring about them any more so they just mope around complaining about other people 'ruining the industry'. Personally, although their lead singer is great on stage, I think they're a bunch of effete, overly made-up bastards with fuck all nice to say about anyone and they should shut their fucking faces and fuck off while they're doing it.

Well he can't have been that upset about it. Their 'Lifeblood' album of a few years back was heavily influenced by New Order. I know James Dean Bradfield is a fan.

He was referring to Electronic though and there's a huge difference between Norder and Electronic.

New Order used the lyrics from Ceremony as a swansong to Joy Division which seemed quite appropriate but I think the Manics have really run out of ideas if they're creating entire albums from their dead (legally now?) singer's notebooks. I saw them at the Heavenly birthday bash last year and while I enjoyed the set it's never far from your mind there's a massive cock playing the bass and doing faintly embarrassing scissor kicks. One in a lady's dress too.

I don't think anyone's annoyed but Wire does have a habit of shooting his mouth off. Even these days. At worst I was perplexed why NME was referring to it as "wisdom".

I dont genuinely believe he has ever sat down and listened to an Electronic track.
On paper; Tennent, Sumner, Marr and Bartos together on record would be like creating the mixture for the perfect cake. In reality, none of those albums quite live up to that promise.
Still a world beating group though Electronic.

No, there are not a lot of similarities bewteen New Order and Know Your Enemy. It was definitely Lifeblood the comparison was drawn. I read an interview with Bradfield who cited early New Order influences on this album. I think you can hear it particularly in the first two songs.
I know Wire was talking about Electronic, but hey, Barney is the lead for both.
I don't care much for the image and bollocks that the Manics cultivate, but (for me) their music is hard to ignore. Journal for Plague Lovers is a great album too.
