Collecting New Order Items.

Why do certain folk collect everything?

I had a good selection of the 7' and 12' singles on vinyl .Since joining ebay about 5 years ago, I now have everything released on vinyl. I have no idea why I have done this ,but alway felt like it needed to be complete - abit like collecting panini football stickers when I was at school. It's not even like I listen to them, as I have them all on cd.

So why do folk collect? Is it mainly men who do?

For anyone who does collect New Order related items - What is the most you have spent on one item? and what has been your best bargain?

Been collecting new order stuff for quite a few years now,think me collecky is summat like 15 pages long.

Funnily enough i stated with a get ready promo cd that a mate gave me fo free.

I had all the back catalog on cd then decided to concentrate on promos,found ebay and the rest is history!

I got bored of buying the promos when the 12x12 inch re-issues came out as there were that many and the prices on ebay were ridiculous! Thankfully one of the lads on here did me some cdr's of the cdr's and he copied me the sleeves so that werent too bad.

i still look on sites and ebay everyday.

My collecky is almost complete,apart from, an original an ideal for living,blue monday jap 7" and the pc&l marbled testpress oh and sordide sentimental.

I cant see me getting my hands on any of the above soon as they are far too expensive,it would have to be a lottery win me thinks.

I have one of the most diverse collections in the world and many unique items (most stuff that other people wouldnt even think of buying!),no where near as good as mr sultans or my good friend neil donkin from new york's collection.

In fact neil has a copy of the fabled transmission acetate which was owned by Martin Hannet which he purchased in 1983,he also has the decades acetate. Both only have 3 copies each and for me are the rarest jd items in the world. I think hooky has copies of decades and transmission acetates,dont think mr sultan has one tho,but i could be wrong.

The cheapest item i got has to be the until the end of time cd and 12",think both came to just over a tenner with postage.

The most i paid for an item was for the world in motion promo and that was £150+. Expensive i do no,but for the completist essential.

The promo posters have been the bane of my life for a while.

I sold my original framed substance,true faith and low-life posters about 7 years ago for £100 to a guy who posts here on nool,only to buy em all again recently!

I think i am still after movement,pc&l,true faith94 (jumbo) and all the ones from republic.

There was a shop in Leeds that had em all in at one point but i failed to buy em ,bugger! And you could get em all in afflecks palace,again failed to buy much to my frustration!

A guy recently offered me £2,000 for my collecky but i told him to do one,its worth far more than that!

It is an addiction,it is a very,very expensive hobby but ultimately worthwile,although the missus is always complaining about the amount of space it takes up!

At one point I had two copies of An Ideal For Living and one copy of Licht Und Blindheit, The most I paid was $1200 USD.

I've got reproduction copies of them now. I hated having to sell them but they kept me afloat during a period of unemployment.

I have at least one physical copy of everything Factory/London, most of them in all formats - LP, 12", 7", and CD. I no longer have the Factory CD editions of Unknown Pleasures, Closer, and Still. I never had the Factory CD of Movement.

I'm missing some of the Factory cassette box editions.

I've got nine framed Saville pieces, a couple more to frame, and a box full of promo items.

A few years back someone (Mick?) started a "What's in your collection?" thread here. During one of the site updates, that thread disappeared. I spent hours compiling and posting it but never bothered to cut and paste it into a document to keep. Very annoying.

I began collecting New Order releases 25 years ago so I can't really recall what I paid for certain things. It's probably for the best.

has that thread gone? that's a shame, same as you - could have copied & pasted!

Blue Monday/Confusion 7" Jap Pressing - only 20 made I believe. Paid 10 quid for it at the markets in London when on my travels from NZ back in 1993.

I see someone is selling off some of Rob Gretton's collection on ebay.

I don't have much right now...Low Life CD, Power, Corruption, and Lies remastered, Brotherhood remastered, New Order Live In Glasgow and soon some clippings.

Just got Movement remastered. Can't wait to listen to it.:)

These do have them, Bluecat , but I heard they are slow at delivering. :)

Collecting NO items to me, is reasonable because of novelty, and the music is occasionally good. Though, I don't really have a defense for Republic(except the three singles, I'm going to forget Spooky was released). Also, they make you look a bit cultured, when every other cunt you know is into some bastardized form of music.

I used to be a large collector of vinyl, my main groups were Smiths, NO, Cure and Smashing Pumpkins. NO was really hard to find around the Los Angeles area, so I only aquired a few things... have alot more Cure and SP stuff. Fortunately for me (or unfortunate, depending on how you look at it) I got married, and funds never really allowed me to buy vinyl again. (plus being stationed in South Carolina, a place void of good taste in music, helped me ween off the addiction of the hobby).

Still collect beer bottles though, which adorn my computer room wall, somewhere around 300 maybe?

wow. they're selling off his entire archive. suerly they could have donated it wholesale to a museum (urbis?) maybe his widow is just "tidying out the shed" and wants rid. any event, there's gonna be some good shit on ebay for a while to come. £120 for a joy division poster.bargain.

I bought most of my collection at used record stores and bought most of them for under 10 dollars.. a grooveline on Joy Division Still album record reads "I've Only Got Records Left"...so true it is.

My favorite single that I own is Run, I think that single got recalled over some lawsuit (I believe) and a Joy Division - Still album in a white gatefold sleeve with blue lettering.

I don't have any vinyl yet. Well I do have TPK 45...

the law suit problem was regarding knicking john denvers leaving on a jet plane - hence run 2 not being on cd

The lawsuit affected Run as well so it didn't prevent them releasing Run 2 in any way that they wanted to, its non appearance on CD in later years is just due to the usual way they mess things up. It's on the recent (and still upcoming) remasters.

I started collecting way before Ebay was around. It was something that gave me excuse to visit record shops, flea markets etc. Perhaps something to keep my mind away from school/work then. Yes I wanted to collect everything.

But I met New Order in person 2001 during their Area One tour in the US. Since then I stopped collecting. Cos that experience of meeting them, all 4 of them at LAX, was the best collection of memories. I was the only fan there and all 4 of them standing in front of me, signing my prized records. Gillian actually visited LA but never played with the band.

I recall Hooky pointing to the Substance Japanese LD and asking "I have never seen this before! Is this an official release?"
