John Fitzgerald [aka Fitzy,Griz] passed away after a short illness on 16th June.

John was an original member of the OZ P.A. crew and a close friend of Oz, Di and Ed.

He roadied for N.O. from their inception, before relocating to Holland in 83ish.

John remained a committed and ardent N.O. fan and saw them live throughout Europe lots of times over the years.

Turn My Way [from Get Ready] was played at his funeral.

Some of you on here may have met or seen him over the years, he was usually stood with Di at the desk in recent years.

A memorial service for John will take place in Manchester in August or September. Anyone who knew John and would like to attend please message me for details.

There was a big old boy, well into his 50s, short grey hair, stood behind the sound desk at Wembley. On the way out of the gig we went via the sound desk, as per usual to see Dian and Andy Liddel and had a brief chat with this fella. Very friendly type. Andy Rob said he was one of the band's old roadies.

Wonder if that was him.

Yeah, that was John, always liked a joke with the 2 Andys and Di. One of my favourite pastimes was sitting in his garden, listening to all his tales about the 'good old days'.

I'm going to miss him massively, such a shock to lose him at 54.

Sorry to hear the sad news, 54 is no age at all. I remember being at the mixing desk with the usual suspects handing out badges. I bet he had a few cracking stories to tell!

Thanks for all your kind words.

I was thinking about 'releasing' my Hamburg 84 soundboard recording in his memory. As i believe this has never been heard by the 'masses' and was given to me by John via Oz.

I'll have to see if this is gonna be a problem for other people as I don't want to get into trouble, or step on anyone's toes. It wouldn't be for profit, may do it for a donation to cancer research or something.

Anyone got any ideas?

Sad news, sounds like a nice bloke.

I'm sure there are many good times for those close to him to remember.

Be sure to pass on our sympathies.

You could set up a paypal system for those willing to chip in and donate to the proceeds to charity, unfortunately I was at a funeral yesterday for someone who died of cancer, he was only 50.

I'm sure I have Hamburg 84, will have to check when I get home from work whether it's a SB.

ATR leaked a good few SB's out to the collectors a few year ago, so I wouldn't expect there to be a problem with this one, but then I would say that ;)

Set something up on Justgiving.com and give us a target to reach. When we get there, put the recording on Divshare and we can download it from there.

Can't see anyone minding that

Couldnae find Hamburg 84 in ma CD boots, probably ma memory playing tricks and it's amongst my cassette collection, which currently resides with another of the lads here. So if it is on cassette I highly doubt it's a soundboard, most of my cassette boots were second or 3rd gen audience recordings.

Good setlist for Hamburg as well, except for the strange omission of Temptation, it's not very often that was left out, plucked the setlist from the live section of this site :thumb:

We don't know - it just does.

Looks like one of you has a rarity on your hands

i can - you should have to donate to get it - the way you say everyone will be able to if they donate or not - the idea is to raise money, so incentivise everyone!

the hope of the states did a few charity tracks where you paid a contribution & you got the link, that sounds best option to me

Hibster, that relies on everyone being decent enough to pay up and not just share the file once it's downloaded. It would probably amount to the same in terms of who would contribute and who would end up with the tunes.

It's up to one of the Eligas, of course.

Eliga, let us know what you decide to do - we'd all be happy to help wherever we can. If you'd rather circulate a disc, we have ways of sorting that out too.

Yeah, I was surprised that Elegia was available when I re-joined after 'losing' my login details,[long time lurker, rare poster, you must have guessed who I am by now El Jarvo?] couldn't believe it! Then after reading a few posts I noticed the original Elegia and was erm... 'confused'.

Anyways, thanks for all your input. If I get the OK from certain people, then ideally I'd like to release it on a disc [very 20th Century of me, I know]. I was thinking about doing a limited edition type thing, knowing that it'll be all over the interweb within hours anyway.

I would need some help with design/artwork etc and possibly getting the cd sounding super-professional. Who on here are the 'Saville-a-like's' and 'Hannett-a-like's'?

Any help gratefully received!

I've just had certain people have been on the phone, E. They say it's cool. Get it burnt :thumb:

EDIT: I don't think you'll be short of offers from Hannett-a-likes. Top tip - ask to see the waveforms.

I'll drop a couple of emails to people who might be interested in doing a cover. Shy lads get nowt, eh?

Who's been on the phone then Diamond 383? Or are you just joking? Seriously though, I don't want to piss anybody off with this. If I get the OK from a certain person, then it'll be 'all systems go'. Until then, here's a little excerpt:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/qqywxo

It's a minute-ish mp3 from the 9 minute EGG encore, just to give you an idea of the quality.

Just a thought, we could have another 'waveform bonanza' with this. Oh Deep Joy.

That's fantastic quality, hope you pull this off.
