anyone know that latest on the unused Siren's Call tracks?
If they're not going to be put on a Cd release - which I kind of hope they're not, given recent re-master fiascos - surely they could be released quickly and easily as download on iTunes and/or Amazon? No marketing needed, low cost to release and a solid customer base itchin' to buy the tracks.... what's the hold up?
I think after they release their solo albums and when that stuff is done then they will concentrate on releasing that stuff and you never know because when they are finishing up those songs in the studio they even might make two more song or something and make a whole album out of it, but for right now they will concentrate on releasing those side projects and then release the left over's and I have a hunch that while working on those left over's they might patch up their differences and add couple of songs to make an album, again it is my opinion so let's see.
that's just wishful thinking. they'll never record again, so as the tracks seemingly were finished anyway they should just release an EP or make them available as downloads as suggested above, and have a definite end to this new order story.
i am surprised they never got bootlegged... maybe they were just rough ideas, no vocals type status?
otherwise, come on, someone would have copied them and someone else would have got them online..... it has been a bunch of years since the sessions, and if new order is over, then who cares, just boot em!
Probably be added to the second CD of the no doubt badly mastered Siren reissue to come, the rest of the CD will be fully of Hooky and Bernard exchanging insults to a dated techno beat.

If someone leaks these I hope they include the demos. I'd like to hear any other lyric ideas Bernard had, especially if he was singing about something other than Dracula at one point. After all this time I still find myself really enjoying WFTSC and I don't know why. It's a bit more of a pop album than their other work but it still has a charm about it. Whose to say some of these old Sirens Call tracks didn't end up as BL tracks? That might be a stretch but it wouldn't surprise me.
I reckon the only hope for this is that they will surface as boots, much like the western works stuff. Bit of a shame as they could make a little slab of dosh by putting them on a BDisc of reissued Sirens (Just like Western Works should have been the BDisc of Movement).

One of the post-Sirens tracks "Brothers and Sisters" or "Sisters and Brothers" was played at a Hooky DJ set in London a few years ago. I was at said DJ set but can't for the life of me remember it; probably too much shandy. Reaction to the track by those who remember it was good though; by no means an aural turd.
As badly as everything is handled with NO these days the potential release of this "new" or perhaps "last" material has been handled much worse. It just takes years for anything to happen and no doubt the individual band members will blame the label or each other to excuse the inaction.
Remembering back, the initial press surrounding WFTSC revealed they had recorded "almost enough for two albums" and it was evident from at least one or two press comments they mentioned that there could conceivably be another album out within two years of WFTSC. Further quotes from Hooky and Steve showed how highly they thought of the unreleased material as well. At the time, this was perhaps the best news for NO fans since they got back together in '98; new album, tour and then another new album not far behind once the touring is finished. Well, we know what happened...
I am curious to know how the bonus disc fuck ups on "The Factory Years" remasters have affected the mooted Republic, Get Ready and WFTSC reissues. The latter of which was meant to include an extra disc with the Sirens' leftovers in the first place. Have they been delayed as a result? Have they been cancelled as a result? I do recall a Rhino advert featuring the Republic sleeve complete with "Collector's Edition" strip superimposed on it so they were presumably somewhere in the pipeline.
When Hooky DJ'd in Hackney last year he mentioned that the Freebass album, the remaining tracks from the Siren's sessions and his Hacienda book would all be released around the same time. While the time mentioned (spring) has slipped, from a promotional perspective that makes a lot of sense, so no reason to believe that approach will change.
So right now, from what info is out there, I would guess a Q4 2009 release date for these items has to be a possibility.
When upcoming releases get leaked it's usually just before the official street date cos the source is typically a promo copy. Quite often it's someone in the media who has received a promo for review purposes and is careless with who they hand it off to or upload it themselves. That's what happened with Sirens - an American journalist's promo copy got hosted on a P2P site. Before promo copies are issued (a month or so ahead of the official release), it's very unlikely an album would get leaked so I can't see anything negative to take from a lack of a leak.
I know of one person in the media who has heard the remaining Siren's tracks and thought they were great. The track Ally mentions, from hazy memory, was quality. No doubt Warners are also discussing a release schedule with the band themselves and that could be driving the time scale as much as anything e.g. is Bernard thinking about playing some of these new NO tracks on a forthcoming BL tour? or do they want clearly staggered release dates so one doesn't overshadow the other?. Er, fcuk knows.
As long as there is some hope that the unreleased tracks will be released somehow someday, I'll keep waiting.
Didnt Hooky accidently delete them off his hard-drive and they are lost forever more?

I think the difference here is, because of all the disorganization at Factory, many of the master tapes for recordings '81-'90 have vanished, whereas recordings done from '93 on for London are probably safely stored away in a vault and logged. Putting together reissues for the post-Factory years should be much easier.

I agree but I meant more that as "The Factory Years" reissues were such an ever so slight disaster are Warners or London really going to be bothered to finish the whole project off? They've presumably had to invest more money in fixing the errors and manufacturing new batches of discs. I wouldn't be surprised if that forced back the release dates of the post-Factory albums by at least a bit.
I agree that the post-Factory years CDs when (if) they arrive should be of a much higher quality audio-wise.
You know what would be pretty funny, is if these left over tracks become the BL album. I know that isn't the case, but it's an interesting thought anyway. I look forward to hearing them one day as it's probably the last (good) new NO material we'll ever get to hear. So maybe the wait will be worth it?

I can't wait for the leftover tracks, and I hope they release it with a nice cd packaging with good artwork on it.

Sorry to state the blindingly obvious, but it's unlikely these will appear. For one thing, the band'd have to reform and finish 'em off, and there's little chance of them getting together at all, certainly not for age-old 'leftovers'. And for another, I can't imagine London settling for anything less than a full-length album release. The songs MIGHT appear on the remaster, but given London's track record... Freebass and BL sound more appealing!

if nobody is planning on profiting off the songs, and nobody in the band cares about these songs anymore, then some studio engineer needs to get off his ass and upload them so us fanatics can hear them.

sorry, i am just frustrated cause these songs were recorded years ago and seem like ghosts, i even have to question their existence.....
