Bad Lieutenant similarities to Joy Division

I have noticed quite a bit of similarities to Joy Division

The Logo

The logo with the sound level bars is almost reminiscent of Joy Division's cover for Unknown Pleasures.

The use of black and white, on the logo and their blog sites.

The rather dark and saddening title Never Cry Another Tear.

I think I am just wishing Bernard goes back to the early sound of Joy Division and makes a dark epic album filled with droning guitars and ceremonial styled drums and cryptic lyrics, like Ceremony and Everything's Gone Green, were the songs seemed a bit more grandeur and iconic.

What do you all think?

I like the logo---but I don't think his voice suits JD style songs exactly how Ian sang it (in other words, I don't think he should imitate Ian's way of singing).

JD is JD. I don't really want to see BL being a JD clone wannabe, personally.

on the wrong track m8, joy division remain frozen in a time of their own,, barneys latest outing is 30 years after the heyday of that great little combo , some movement in musical tastes here.

this fire is burning

That is more than a bit of a stretch. I would expect the opposite of JD, more like Twisted Tenderness but blander or maybe more like The Doves. Barney isn't writing most of the lyrics anyway, just a few songs.

As for the logo... nothing wrong with trying to make it look good. I wouldn't be surprised if the album cover was a lame cliche picture of the band, just to change things up and try something new for Barney.

And JD never really had melodramatic titles like Never Cry Another Tear. Name sounds more like a Cure imitation band.

That's harsh :evil4:

Actually, I'm getting that "the other two" vibe.

I would have thought they wont sound much like Joy Division and not much like New Order.

As for similarities theres one huge one. Both bands have 3 letters in their first name. Spooky. Oh and so does the New Order. Very spooky. And (apparently) Marr wanted his group with Barney called "The Electronic". See, 3 letters again. Mind boggling similaries:crazy:

Plus there probably were "bad lieutenants" at Nazi prison camps, probably walked in line also. Another Nazi link?

Reading this thread is like being aggressively fucked in both eye sockets by Timmy Mallett and Jimmie Krankie (15" strap-on).

Ah, only four posts in? I'll be gentle, then.

Try not being a vacuous, patronizing little septic cunt, you vacuous, patronizing little septic cunt, and folk round here may be a little more accommodating.

The topic starter is a newbie - so don't want to be too harsh on him......cos in general it's an AMERICAN thing, they tend to think too much about stuff over there. Enjoy the music for what it is and don't over analyze anything (or you'll get yer arse ripped to feck here) Go out and get drunk more

Results of autopsy studies show that patients with a history of chronic alcohol consumption have smaller, lighter, more shrunken brains than nonalcoholic adults of the same age and gender.

Don't over analyze anything?.... You're a hypocrite and an alcoholic

Hahaha...but it is a bit of a stretch to claim similarities...though. I'm too tired to over analyse things in these forums...or elsewhere.

I already do lots of (over) analysing at my university, by the way.

Aww bless.

I was beginning to like you after yer first response as well.

Forum rules

1 Expect the piss to be ripped out of ye for posting daft threads. 2 Expect the piss to be ripped out of you.

Usually when people begin posting here, they have a wee look round first and know what to expect when posting.

It's almost always harmless banter. I suggest you take a wee step back and stop being so sensitive.

That way you'll be fine on here :thumb:

It's what the British people (and non-British people on the site) call 'piss-taking'.

Yes, it can be a bit strange at first, but you'll get used to it. I've seen worse behaviour in other places online, and I doubt most people here break those rules.

Enjoy your stay here!
