So New Order may be releasing a new DVD. How about releasing a version for Canada and the US this time! I had to buy a bootleg video of "316". I'm pretty sure New Order still have enough fans over here to support a DVD release.

Buying bootlegs is naughty as well.
I'm not disputing that New Order are bigger in the UK but they do have a lot of fans over here. Finding a region free DVD player over here isin't too easy either. By the way, Canada is a very beautiful country.
Try www.laserexchange.com for a good selection of region free DVD players. The most affordable region free player I've seen in the US is by APEX, for around $79.

Jahmeel, I think the reference to "Septic land" was merely meant as some jovial cockney rhyming slang: septic tank = yank. Of course you're not a Yank so it was a little misguided. No one's knocking the beauty of Canada, it's vividly portrayed on South Park all the time.
A suggestion for your DVD issue: find someone to chip your player. A relatively simple procedure can have many players region-free in no time. Not quite legal of course, but there's plenty of backyard experts out there who'll do it for a small fee. They can also disable the macros to enable recording onto video tape.

I don't see the point in releasing the Finsbury gig on DVD as the track listing is nearly the same as that of 316. Just my opinion...

If nothing else, they could at least encode the thing in Dolby Digital 5.1. The PCM stereo sound of 316 was a bit disapointing and the actual quality wasn't that clean. Recent live DVD gigs such as Underworld, NIN and even Depeche Mode have superior sound.

I do agree: I burnt an audio CD from 316 for my car, and I must say that the sound quality is rather disapointing. This is less apparent when watching the DVD with the sound on my hi-fi, but even there it is far from perfect.

I got my Apex player at Future Shop a few years back, it had a special menu to disable the regions and macrovision, so I can tape all DVDs and play all region DVDs.
There is still maybe a few, but you have to be sure, and there is plenty of bios crack on the net for the Apex players.. but I wouldn't do that.

Which reminds me I still didn't play my "One Night in Paris" DVD...
It's a real shame that the tv company concerned chose to record the Finsbury gig. I would have thought it obvious that the Manchester "Move" gig would have been the better gig but what do I know.
There is alot to consider (and an enormous amount of legal admin) when deciding to film a gig so I suppose this might have been done BEFORE the Manchester gig was confirmed. Initial TV are releasing this in conjunction with Warner and it's to be hoped that there will be extras on the DVD too.
The "Move" gig was filmed IN PART by Miles Prowse and myself for the bands management - the entire gig was "broadcast" via the Festival TV cameras but those images were for the audience ONLY - they were NOT recorded. I looked at some of the coverage backstage with the Festival TV director and the stuff looked amazing I have to say so it really is a shame that this wasn't the DVD gig - the weather, the atmosphere & the performance would have made for a brilliant release.

And they should call the DVD "Ready"
They should have a commentary, but we all know thats not going to happen.
And of course some Easter Eggs in the DVD would be nice, like the remix video of Crystal.

Linear PCM stereo is a signal recording format used in audio CDs. While audio CDs are recorded in 44.1 kHz/16 bit, DVDs are recorded in 48 kHz/16 bit up to 96 kHz/24 bit.

Indeed! But at the end of the day it's two channel stereo sound and what we want to hear is 5.1 channels of Dolby Digital to recreate the immersive atmosphere of actually being there... Well at least those of us who caned the plastic to set speakers and subs up around their living room.
I got the feeling with 316 that the fault didn't lie with the transfer but the original live recording. New Order's live sound just doesn't seem to compare with the likes of the Chemical Brothers. Whenever I've seen them live, their sound was f*cking loud and ground-shaking, but still crystal clear. Of course they're not exactly playing live guitars, but to me even New Order's dancier tracks (eg BLT) still sound distorted and muddied.
Anyone else?

Thanks RICARDO and DEPTHCHARGE...indeed i have 5 speakers into the DVD player so this explains those GREAT sounding new movies i have watched using DOLBY where you think someone is creeping up behind you or you have a tap dripping!:D Cheers and thanks to you all for those replies.I know what i like but not quite sure what i am looking for...until NOW.

Many DVD players can be unblocked quite simply. Mine now plays all region DVDs without a problem! All it took was a small software code hack which was entered using the remote control! piece of cake :D
Best thing to do is using a search engine find a DVD website concerning your particular model number and look through FAQ's or post a message on the relevant forum/guestbook and you will undoubtably find out exactly what hidden secrets your DVD has!!!!
