You could buy this. Seriously. I'll pass.

Is this funny? or is the artist a wanker?

Why are they all different ages? Does Hooky really wear loafers?

"From the mind of prolific Chicago "pop" artist, Derek Erdman, these exlusive 11x17 art prints come on superfine mohawk paper stock and are limited to 100 copies only. Each will be signed and numbered by Derek Erdman. Derek Erdman is a Chicago artist known for his original portraits of everyone from Mike Schmidt and Eddie Murray, to Larry Hagman and Nell Carter.

Below, in Derek's own words and imagination, is his latest portrait project commissioned exclusively for Insound.

"Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris (accompanied by wife Gillian Gilbert), of the popular rock group Joy Division, recently won a cash purse of £350,125 after completing a sweep of five races at a Macclesfield OTB. 'We kept trying to talk Ian into betting with us'" said Sumner, referring to Ian Curtis, the fourth member of the band, 'but he simply chose all of the wrong dogs.' The winning three pooled their money and chose the winner in each of the day's five races. The winning dogs were listed as: Midnight Tax Return, Debbie Debbie, Funtime Alomar, Bruno S, and Daft As A Brush. 'After Funtime Alomar won,' said Morris, 'I had a feeling we were going to win the whole thing. Plus, I had just eaten a sandwich.' The group has not yet decided on how they will split up the money, but they do have plans to travel to the USA in the next few months. 'I hear it's lovely this time of year,' said Hook, 'I'm really looking forward to seeing Wall Drug.' Curtis could not be reached for comment." "

i quite like it. nowt wrong with a bit of irreverence. wouldn't give it any wall space, but i think it's kind of poignant, and kind of interesting, and certainly original...

the back's round this way, is it? got yer gun, yeah?

I love it. Can't explain why tho.It certainly is irrelevant. I think I'm a fruitcake probably. Linus still got me beat.

Hooky dressed like my dad but not in a good way. BTW, off track betting is a New York State thing which is kinda interesting coming from a Chicagoan artist.

EDIT: OTB is not only in NY State:uhoh:. Shows how much I know. I guess i assumed it was because it is subsidized by the state gov't. Each year its the usual crisis where they may be shut down.

um, no.

most of the best works of art have a message, even if subtle, even if just a theme they are pushing, to convey.

artists don't put hours and hours of effort into something just to not make a point.

even a painted flower is making a statement, in how it is painted.

even this piece of garbage is making a point. trying to say something about morris, hook, and sumner distinct from gilbert and curtis.

all that said, the 'art' in this thread is just utter crap. there is nothing captivating about it. it is not any sort of spectacle. it is poorly executed.

it just sucks. sometimes, things can just suck and not be art....

like, uh, the Shellshock Robie remix.

a retarded and unneccessary caricature. bah. and they all look so OOOOLLLLLDDDDDD. to be fair, based on the description, all of his works probably look flat, wobbly and over-lined like that, i.e. garbage. why does anyone think this is good, let alone great. i kind of hope i never see another one of his "works", that's how much it hurts my eyes.

wtf, who gives a crap about your dumb story derek. lay off the "class a's". wouldn't know whimsical if it bit him on the ass. i know derek erdman isn't actually reading this but oh well, he should.

Hey... Is Hooky grabbing Barney's ass?

It IS creepy and really ugly, if that was the artist's goal. Maybe why they are selling it as a limited edition of 100 is all part of the joke. Why are they dressed so badly?

Maybe the next picture will be JD and Scooby Doo driving around Manchester in the Mystery Van solving crimes.

Derek Erdman... cool pop art artist.

i also like his Jacko painting:

If Jackson had went with that Beehive-Afro pictured above, the world would probably be a much different place today.
