Heres the universal vintage....
Does Bernard and New Order have a deal with Adidas? Maybe an Adidas rep can hook Bernard up with anything he wants... :)

YES,it is well known that a certain person (mentioning no names like) "supplies" new order and a few other manc bands with adidas clobber.
I was talking to Bez bout 6 weeks since and he had a pair of adidas court star trainers on with PURPLE stripes (from said bloke) ,i've only ever seen them in Germany.
So does look like they lads CAN get all the xclusives.

Do we think Barney actually knows what he's wearing though?
Or that someone's just said, "Stick these on yer feet, Bernard. Trust me, the kids'll love 'em. You can have your carpet slippers back later after we've snapped some pics."

..but at least he has something in the PIpeLine..:p
yes he definitely will know what he's wearing - he's always worn cool trainers and clothes in general IMO. And the kids nowadays wouldnt be seen dead in these trainers, they wear big chunky nike shite that gangsta rappers wear. its only people of our generation that like these retro football casual style trainers...
Agreed. Bernard has been wearing Adidas shoes shoes since the mid 1980's.
Geez, some people on here seem desperate to try to find pedantic reasons to crap on Mr. Sumner.
For the record, I am 27, and I only wear Adidas shoes (for casual shoes). White shell tops with black stripes. :)

I don't know much about this supplying thing, but yes, I've seen pics of other Manc musicians with Adidas stuff on so that could be very much probable.
Anyway, the pics look great.

As a Manc I can catagorically state that Adidas (pronounced A-deee-das instead of Ad-e-das) pisses on Nike every time.
Just check out King Monkey.

There are some live photos floating around from the late 80's where he ihas adidas shoes on. There is one photo from 87, I think, where he has an adidas t shirt on.
Not Adidas related, but in the live video of 1963 from 1989 on the Glasgow DVD, he is wearing Chuck tailors.
I suppose you must also think Fred Perry gave him Fred Perry shirts to wear back in the 80's. saying, "Here, clueless twat, these will make the kids think you are cool".
You can look up the photographs yourself.
Oh, Hooky has worn Adidas on many occasions himself, by the way.

Nike is all big, clunky, and fucking ugly. Adidas is smooth, streamlines, stylish, and just fucking cool.
I pretty much only wear white Adidas with the black stripes on the sides, shiny black Doc Martens, or shiny black dress shoes. All three are, I feel, simple, stylish, and classic. :)
This thread is going to make me buy some white with black stripes (Sambas probably) now... I've got black ones already, but what the hell maybe I'll buy another pair.
Always try to avoid white shoes thou, it seems like such an American stereotype since the 80s. I remember years ago being told that Europeans can always tell who are vacationing Americans because they wear those stupid looking white shoes everyday, all day long. Why do Americans love ugly looking white or greyish Nikes or New Balance. Those purple or orange swishes look great with the stonewashed jeans I guess.

Blimey. I really wasn't expecting a response, Zachery!
However, with regards to your comments. "Bernard has been wearing Adidas shoes shoes since the mid 1980's." He's English. Just about every English bloke of 'an age' must've owned a pair of Adidas as some point. If you're making the assumption he started wearing them in the mid-80's then he was well off the mark in the fashion stakes. Just about every 12 year old in this country had owned a pair of Mamba/Samba by 1980! If you had nice parents, you might've had a pair of Stan Smiths too! Adidas trainers in this country were far from uncommon.
Fred Perry? What's so special about Fred Perry? It's not expensive or exclusive? If anything Fred's are associated with the 2-Tone scene from 79-81 (the recent Specials comeback confirmed that with the number of Freds in the audience) but I'd bet every English bloke of my era has owned (and probably still owns) a Fred of some colour. These aren't rare items.
And as for the "Here, clueless twat, these will make the kids think you are cool" comment, take a look at this New Order publicity pic. Loads from this shoot were doing the rounds weren't they? Do you believe they weren't given clothes for this shoot, they just turned up in their own clothes and just 'happened' to all be wearing SI? (Or maybes they phoned each other beforehand to wear matching outfits?)

Go and dig out "Awaydays" if you can, Zachery. If you think Barney was a trend-setter in the 80's, then you'll explode at the sight of Scousers in bright pink Freds and Forest Hills back in the 70's!!! ;)
I was only allowed a pair of the very practical Adidas 'Kick'. Basically, football boots without the studs. Lasted ages though. Wasn't allowed to replace them with a new pair til the sole was literally flapping about having become detatched from the upper. Rubbish parents. I should've phone Childline.
I saw Steve Morris buying a Stone Island top in the Trafford Centre in 2004.
Hope this helps.

Adidas Kick? I remember. Replaced by the fancy trainers with shock absorbers in them. All the rage back then. Reappeared a few years ago. Didn't own a pink Fred though only a white one.![]()

Every failing in my adult life can be traced back to having shit gypo trainers when I was a nipper. That scene in "This Is England" where the young lad's mum coerces him into wearing the shitty sub-Docs almost had me in tears.

Ah very good read here Mr. Jarvo. I've a hard time discerning a sense of humour over the web sometimes.
I never said Barney was a trend setter. His style during a lot of the 80s seemed derived from 80's Casual style, which is cool. Barney happens to make the Casual look even cooler because he was the leader of New Order!
I wasn't aware that the band were all wearing the same brand in those WFTSC promo pics...however, those outfits are in line with lots of other things that the band has worn in the past over the years and I thought they looked sharp.
Whats special about Fred Perry? Its expensive here in the US...there is only one store in all of Ohio where you can buy a FP shirt and they are like 70 bucks ($70 for a polo shirt) is a lot for me. FP isn't as common in the states as here.
And most people in the US wear shitty Nike shoes.
adults wearing sneakers is pretty silly.
it is ok for popstars, but grown men wearing sneakers (or trainers i suppose is yr lingo?) to anywhere but the gym is just pathetic.
maybe it is cause i live in america and see way too many obese people with shorts and cankles with stupid wal-mart sneakers struggling to get up into their massive SUVs....

Barney was indeed a trend setter with his gear, most people on here will own up to looking for the same kinda stuff. The Gio Goi jacket from the Get The Message TOTP performance is the favourite jacket I've ever owned. And for the record, I don't recall Barney sporting Adidas trainers in the 80's, thought Adidas came into play when the band reformed for the second time in 98 (or possibly 01) most of the time he wore shoes, I stand ready to be corrected though. Regarding FP, Fred Perry has always been in style and always will be, nothing expensive or poncy about them at all (says he who has quite a number of em) and there's fuck all wrong with Nike either. You won't often see me without Samba's or Gazelle's, but I don't get this negative Nike malarkey, Cortez are the bollocks. Nothing wrong with being a casual ![]()
Gotta agree with the wee shuglet there, shoes ARE for Gays AND TEACHERS!
I own ONE pair of lacoste boots, same pair for the last six years, funeral or wedding a quick polish and thats me done! ;)
adidas trainers all the way!
In fact the only pair of Nike trainers i would EVER wear (if they were re-issued) are omega flame, cant ever see them seeing the light of day tho.

They're not sneakers mate, they are called trainers. I am guessing because the yanks didnae get the football hooligan culture over there, you just won't get it. Plenty of trendy older lads on this site and in Britain in general who can pull off the casual look. Maybe it's just a case of you lot not knowing how to dress.
