From today's Manchester Evening News:

AN olive branch of sorts has been proffered by Peter Hook who says he'd be 'delighted' to go along and see former New Order band mate Bernard Sumner's new outfit, Bad Lieutenant, when they play the Ritz next month.

"I would like to see it, not out of any ambivalence, just genuinely out of interest," he says. "I have heard their stuff and it sounds alright to me.

"And there's always that macabre self-interest about what the bass player is going to be like. It would be dead funny if the bass player started playing and I was in front of him giving the thumbs up."

Meanwhile, Hooky tells me that his own music plans are gaining shape and that there will be an EP in the next few weeks from Freebass, the super group also boasting the services of former Smith Andy Rourke and Mani, the former Stone Rose now playing with Primal Scream.

Vocalists respectively on each of the four tracks will be Tim Burgess of The Charlatans, Pete Wylie of Livepool band The Mighty Wah, Haven singer Gary Briggs and Hooky.

The 4 track EP is: You Don't Know This About Me (with Tim Burgess)Milky Way Is Our Playground (with Pete Wylie)Dark Starr (with Howard Marks)Live Tomorrow You Go Down (Peter Hook vocals).

The EP is called "Two Worlds Collide" and will be out on Hacienda Records.

The tracks with Gary Briggs will be released as an LP at a later date.

:abovelol: I really loved that. On a lesser man, it'd cause performance anxiety. The right sort would :thumb: him back.

Looking forward to this EP.

Can't wait to get it, any chance of your dad taking some down to HMV for the book signing?

So Gary Briggs will be the "main" vocalist on the LP, while the EP will feature the "guest" vocalists?

It makes me happy that Hooky is up for seeing Bad Lieutenant. :)

Really looking forward to hearing the Freebass stuff at last.

Someone needs to jazz up the myspace though.

And besides Freebass, they are releasing some *really* great artists

But I can say that rumours that "Los Chukos de Zaz y Zaz" will support Freebass on tour are totally false.

Please bear in mind that it won't go "live" until Monday.

Maybe they're just going for the same old Factory/Hacienda tardiness and being fashionably late again!

Exactly... so in reality because I don't think the album is as awesome as others on here, even though I would very much like to check it out... I might end up just leaving it.

In what format will it (the EP) be?

Vinyl only? CD?

The kids ALWAYS suffer in a divorce.... As you were....:D

I wonder if Hooky will be able to enjoy seeing them without feeling a pang of nostalgia over what might have been. It does seem like a divorce really....especially with Tony Wilson & Rob Gretton both being gone...plus the collapse of Factory Records. Things are never going to be the same....are they????

It reminds me of the Smiths song where Morrissey sings,"we cannot cling to the old dreams anymore. no, we cannot cling to those dreams..."

Maybe Steve can sneak a few free passes/guest list mentions to Hooky, Jack, and Gillian...

I think I will end up at the gig to be honest.. just not sure how yet.
