This song is heartbreaking because of the last sentences. He has beaten the bad man, but nevertheless he is poisened, he is hurt by this man. Last sentences are in Republic-style.

The last two minutes of PI really remind me of the feel of Republic as a whole, end of summer, end of an era, elegiac, sad. The synth melodies are really nice/

I think the song is basically Bernard saying he is pissed at Hooky for leaving New Order and thinks he was wrong for doing so....but also, he feels bad about everything and is willing to make amends.
Even if you get angry with someone you are close to and stop talking to them, when that person was your best friend since you were twelve, you grew up together, wrote songs together, ect, there is bound to be some hurt. On both ends.

Words, sounds, yeah yeah yeahs, woops, most stupid dancing, guitar type, what colour underwear, red or white wine..get a grip. No-one died.... well ok not funny ...but hell its not the end of the world!

I've got two undergraduate degrees, I work in an art museum, and I am a regionally successful musician and photographer.
So, outside of the ten minutes a day I spend on NOOL, yes, I have a life.
New Order has beenn my favorite band since I was 13 (I am 27 now). One of the things I enjoy about NOOL is coming on here before I go to bed at night or when I am having my coffee in the cafe, reading some the of the discussions, and posting sometimes. It takes....a whopping few minutes out of my usually busy day.
This is a NOJD and related discussion forum. What are we supposed to talk about?

Agreed. There is a synth melody at the end of PI similar to the main synth melody in Times Change.
I really like Times Change, by the way. The rap is a bit...jarring, but it has one of the best choruses Barney has written. its such a sad song.

I don't want to bash Hooky but he is the one who pulled the plug on New Order. There is bound to be some bitterness on Barney's part because New Order breaking up was not his choice. From what I have seen of interviews from both their sides,Barney seemed to have been bewildered & caught off guard by the depth of Hooky's anger towards him. Whether that anger is justified, only the two of them can determine that. Why did Hooky break up New Order? Was it out of some destructive impulse? Maybe, that is what Barney means by "poisonous intent."
Such strong reactions; NOOL doesn't disappoint as usual 
(Of course) the notion of this thread was meant to be tongue in cheek from the start. I think some people thought it was deadly serious :p wasn't seriously suggesting Bernard is obsessively pouring over the New Order rift, Hooky etc. in every single line of Poisonous Intent but some of the lyrics are open to casual interpretation. Thought it would make good forum fodder.
For me, PI is probably another example of some of Bernard's lyrics occasionally reflecting what's going on around him but never going too deep. In the past he's alluded to failed relationships on Technique and the Factory collapse on Republic though he never goes deep enough for it to be meaningful or specific.
As he himself would probably say; it's just a pop song.
He definitely should have turned the synth up on it though.

The lyrics on NCAT certainly are the most bizarre/intriguing that Barneys had in a long time, some of them seem generated by the vocal melodies Barney generally uses. To be honest PI reminds me a bit of "Visit Me" off or RTP. Just as Running Out Of Luck sounds like "One Day" at parts lyric wise. It's definitely plausible that a lot of PI is aimed at Hooky, and who can blame Bernard for doing that? We all know the split seemeed pretty bitter.
Barney has oft stated that his stuff comes from the subconscious and Hooky will undoubtably be kicking around that space of his psyche. This song probably is a lot to do with Hooky, mixed in with some frustration about other 'stuff'.
this is creepy, i was listening to PI on the Ipod while doing some running through the forest. While i was listening to it i thought if this was about Hooky or something. So i wanted to drop this on NOOL to see what the experts have to say about it...
