Down in the 'General Chat' forum the other day something occurred which some people may have missed. I hope big Al doesn't mind me revealing this, but it would be a great shame not to mention his book 'E-males' which is on general release.

Yes, not only is Jarvo the kind of the NO road who always relaying any and every NO titbit he's unearthed form all five corners of the globe, not only does he down gallons of ale and consume something from his local Indian noones ever head of, but he is also an author.

This review provides a decent appraisal of the storyline ... note the reference to NO.

Nice one Al, not only did you write a book, but you managed to get the band in the story.

Outstanding!

Naughty ... but NICE!, 7 January, 2000 Reviewer: Andrea Z (andzee@aol.com) from Isle of Dogs So hip, you can almost hear them compiling the movie soundtrack as you're reading this - LOTS of dance music, shades of New Order (reminiscent of 'The Beach' or 'Trainspotting', anyone?). Zips along at pace and, with short sharp chapters and a snappy dialogue to boot, I must admit I found emales (note: lower case, very hip) totally unputdownable. Repetitive it may be = clubs, drugs, sex, more clubs, more drugs, more sex = but in 'Dame' Jarvis has created atrue ANTI-HERO for the CHEMICAL GENERATION, not necessarily likeable but strangely appealing nevetheless. You may just hate all the characters in this book but they'll definitely show you a good time along the way and there's more than enough potential for a follow up ... please?

I noticed that review too and thought it was a great little observation not realising this was the AL JARVO we have come to know and respect! ROCKET MICK :cool2:

Read Al's book afew months ago & can wholeheartedly recommend it.

I won't spoil it by revealing the plot but there is something about it that makes you want to find out where it's all going & a sharp twist at the end.

Buy it.

Think Dave Hibell has read it aswell.

I heard a rumor that the webmasters were trying to get hold off Jarvo so that we could 'chat online' to him. I doubt they'd ever pull that scoop off though.

Did a couple I think? 'Abroad with New Order' for Dublin, Germany and Roskilde 93, and an Electronic gig at the Barras in about 90 or 91. Remember the latter cos it was in the days when you used to TYPE (ie. on a typewriter) your bloody reviews. Tippex all over the shop.

Yeah...try Issue Nine : Sept '93, page 18..for that 'Abroad With New Order' article.....

Actually, Jarvo isn't the only NOOL member to have had a book published.....I have done 4 historical books that will be of absolutely no interest to anyone looking for sex, drugs and violence, but very interesting to anyone researching the English Civil War and family history. Plus a shedload of stuff for Last Orders, various other football and music fanzines, as well as several national and regional daily papers. First novel is in progress, can't guarantee it will be as compulsive a read as Jarvo's though !!!!

A goodie to look out for is Jonathan Scott's remake of Fear & Loathing in (nearly) Las Vegas when he went on a road-trip thru' the US following the Order. Funnily enough, I ripped off his entire article for half a page in 'e-males'!

Nice one i am going to check these out tonight. Thanks once again to ALL those helpful answers:D

The fact that Jarvo used even just a little of THAT article in "E-Males" meant more to me than all other "Order Events" put together...

Reading this thread encouraged me to look through my old copies of Paradise, and there is Al ("Alan" in those days!) with a number of articles (first one being an Electronic gig in Glasgow I think), as well as Jonathan Scott producing various covers for the mag.

Are any of the other people involved in Paradise on this forum? I don't see any other names here that I recall as being involved. David Smith is the obvious one I suppose!

I thought Huntsman was back:eek:

I am halfway through the book, far too much sex and drugs for my liking. I am enjoying the Neworder stories scattered throughout though, and there are a couple of cracking laugh out loud bits, namely the guy injecting his eyes with voddy. Class.

BTW Al - can you send me a copy of the Vikings music? I keep forgetting to ask you!

I'm reading at the moment - only about a 1/4 way through, but would definitely recommend.
