Just listening to Ceremony (always a pleasure!) and got thinking what tracks do you think Hooky really hits out hard on??
Fine early moments on Ceremony of course, but what later tracks have really stood out for you??

I have somewhere in the dregs of my memory something about a gig in Belguim as JD were Hooky wades into the crowd and starts twatting a load skins with his bass (which is still plugged in) and the joyous sound of bass meeting someones head comes out of the speakers.

Two occasions at least - Factory Club 28/9/79 during Autosuggestion, and Rotterdam Glazandaal /4/82. Both occasions involved someone in the front row getting headstocked :violent2:
Saw him knuckle two lads over the head from the stage: Revenge, Cambridge Junction, about 1990. Quite frankly though, the two lads didn't deserve it (think they knocked his pint over, or something at the front) and looked utterly upset/shellshocked that Hooky could lamp them. Both looked fit to burst into tears.
Definitely the live versions of Face Up....they are something to behold, as well as most of the stuff mentioned above.....and I'll add As It Is When It Was as well:D
talking about the hookmeister attacking the audience....he did a similar thing at macclesfield leisure centre in 85....some geezer was giving him quite a hard time and then...bang in comes the guitar....i was stood near the lad at the time....he absolutely shat himself....to be fair the lad stayed at the gig and hookie just constantly glared at him.....but no more abuse was forthcoming...
Never seen Hooky attack anyone but I remember there was a bit of a fight (Ok an all out riot) at Preston Guildhall in 85. Some massive bloke with a Mohican came from back stage jumped into the crowd and broke it up single handed. Bravest thing I've ever seen as 50 or 60 lads were having a running battle at the time.

It was a group of lads that were chanting "Leeds, Leeds, Leeds" that started it, but your right it quickly turned into a Preston v Blackburn thing.

Just had to dig out this old quote of mine and return it to the top.
Had a drink with Dave '142 gigs' Molyneux last night and it turns out it was HIM who Hooky knuckled over the head at said gig all those moons ago.
Perhaps I should reprise my 'looked fit to burst into tears' comment, mind, as Dave's just left the Para's and is a good foot taller than Hooky. Still, the years have probably just clouded me memory somewhat. It was funny at the time though.
Oh, and they HAD knocked his pint over - Dave confirmed that!

It was quite surreal last night when you came out with that one Al. I was just in the process of telling you the story when you threw it at me!
Old fatty was jumping around on stage trying to be Barney as usual when he accidentally knocked his can of Stella over. Fearing embarrassment he elected to stick a couple of woodys on two of us who were perched at the front of the audience. Thinking back I believe I was actually with 'Dove' so there was probably a bloody good chance of me actually bursting into tears as a consequence! lol
Then again. If I ever had to sit through a Revenge set again I would most certainly be crying.
Has anyone got the write up of the gig from the NME? Who's that good looking geezer in the front row?

Cheeky Monkey. I'm pretty sure Kim is in there also. I had no idea it was in there then when I went over the the first Electronic LA shows I was in a second hand record store in Venice Beach and had a good look through the old copies they had there and bingo! There was my ugly mug. Typically, the chap in the store asked me to autograph it! So from an original $2 it immediately devalued to around 30 cents.
This was not the first occasion I had been asked for my autograph in the States. I was having loads of drinks with Barney after the Phoenix show and people seemed delighted to have me sign their album covers they had brought along for the band to sign. I am still at a loss as to why wanted mine.
