Rather annoying loop is that. I like the 'EP available Sept/Oct/Nov 2009', quote. That gives him a month to release it, or maybe he should change it to 2009/2010/2011 instead.

It's like an advert in a way for the EP, I guess.
The reason for the voiceover is mainly to stop people copying the file and reproducing it elsewhere for illegal download.
The same was done on the unreleased Warsaw track on the Peter Hook Myspace page.

Not to mention, I think it's also a way of cleverly advertising their upcoming EP. I don't mean that in a bad way.
Once past the initial irritating (and probably unnecessary or at least to that degree) promo loop the underlying track sounded quite good really; pretty tuneful and I'd like to hear it again but minus the "anti-piracy" guff. Who's that on vox? Hooky's bass seems to be nicely driving the whole tune along... definitely a bit of promise for the final release there and indeed the first FB song that sounds "finished".
They should get their mailing list on the go and entice people to register with a free MP3 as Bad Loot did. It's pretty much a tried and tested marketing technique for many bands these days and people normally flock to it.

It is Tim Burgess from the Charlatans on vocals.
Track sounds ace.
I understand the need for the spoken watermark but its way over the top here. Spoils the track.
Only us nutters would even leave it playing with that going on all the way through it.
The Freebass stuff just needs releasing as soon as possible followed by a massive tour. The tour profits would cover all the precious recording costs involved etc.

Wow, sounds great! Reminds me of Ceremony. If Hook's, Rourke's and Mani's DJ sets are any indication, I have a feeling that Never Cry Another Tear will be collecting some heavy dust once Freebass gets an official release. They all still have an ear for what gets the crowd going and it's really showing on this track.
Captain paranoia will probably have a bloody watermark on the actual release!

I purchased the ENTIRE album with two BONUS tracks and ONE iTUNES track which wasn't available any other way at that time BEFORE playing BL.I ain't fussed even to try listen to this with watermark.I will may a track up and hum it to myself until the OFFICIAL release.Let's not go there.
It's very weird listening all this electronic stuff of Freebass. Hooky always says that he prefers the rock stuff and Bernard electronic stuff.
But BL album is more guitar and FB's pure technology

For the same reason I was equally baffled at Monacos first album. I thought it would be more guitar driven but it kinda sounded like a New Order by numbers.

Personally thought it pisses over BL's output (the bass reminded me of Ceremony), but WTF did Burgess think he was doing with that vocal?

It was on Salford City radio 18/09/09.
But it also featured a watermark 'Peter Hook, Salford City radio,' throughout the track!
They didn't play the complete song, Hooky said he needs some people to buy it for 79p otherwise he won't be able to retire!

He also played a couple of minutes of it on Radio 2 when Stuart Maconie had that New Order week to coincide with the reissues. It was quite promising then. I guess it still is, a year later.

Well, indeed. I suppose this is his Movement voice, he is a fan-boy after all. A couple of songs I heard off the Charlies' last album were as close to pure NO rip-offs as I've heard. And that includes Monaco.

YDKTAM starts well, then goes MOR. Good track though.

I'm old skool me, not listening to nothing (other than you lot bitchin ) till its released on a physical entity (did the same for the other lot as well)
That loop drove me so nutsy I couldn't finish either track! Freebass have garnered a lot of interest, mainly for the oddball nature of the project itself. Release-wise it's been far too piecemeal and sporadic to comment. The only track I've really liked is 'The Tower'.

Plus DJ sets, live appearances, a book, a signing tour, an Acid House compilation album, a new Manchester club, offers to promote new bands, appearances with other bands for charity events, a new EP, album and gigs on the way, etc.

Wasn't questioning your dedication, just that some people are more willing to persevere with the idea that something good might actually be released by ex-New Order members in 2010.
Let's hope so, whether it's Barney, Hooky, Steve and Gillian or Phil.

I'm glad you could see I was only half serious.
Of course I'm anxious to hear what he'll do, but between all the "hurry up and wait" surrounding Freebass, and the "maybe it exists and maybe it doesn't" surrounding the JD rehearsal tapes and Pictures In My Mind, these boards have gotten a bit frustrating!

Just saw this bit from an NME online article about Primal Scream starting to work on a new album. (This bit isn't about Primal Scream, though.)
"Currently working on the finishing touches to the long-awaited Freebass album, with New Order's Peter Hook and former Smiths bassist Andy Rourke, Mani revealed how they were "99-percent done".
"We've got like one more week left and then we're going to draw a line under it," he explained. "You're never gonna be 100-percent happy with anything you do, I never am and I never will be, so it'll be nice to finish things off and then get out and start playing the tunes."
Already confirmed for Japan's Fuji Rock and Reading festival, the as-yet-to-be titled album will be preceded by an EP 'When Two Worlds Collide', which will be released shortly. "
(I first was confused when the article mentioned Fuji Rock and Reading, and I re-read it, looked at the title of the EP, and realised that this part was about Freebass!)
