Best New Order Christmas gig

Made it to Wembley 87 but it all felt a bit sold out, all the yuppies had caught up (Even Simon our tune Bates was there) though it was the pinnacle of being 19 years old and pretending to be depressed. Though Face Up was ace . MEN Arena 98 was a bit staid, Underworld were better. Never made it to the motorway for GMEX 88 and London Poly 85 and Brixton 83 were a bit too early for me/ I was actually in London the night of the Ally Pally NYE 98 but was dragged kicking and screaming to some shite do at where i can't remember to witness Faithless at some shite do.

they did some Christmas time gigs in Australia in the 80s but they don't count because Australia is boiling hot in December and therefore doesn't qualify as being Christmas.

my brother and me left at the end of LWTUA to try and get to Euston for the last train. thing with the Wembley 87 gig was that there was no poncy Beastie Boys fans to kick the shit out of like there had been at the Sheffield Roxy gig 6 months earlier

not that i did at Sheffield but the Beasties fans "throwing" their "moves" pre gig were well asking for it.Cunts

G-Mex gets the nod from me. Had a seating ticket but managed to get my way down the front, was absolute bedlam down there. Much jostling, pushing and shoving and swaying from side to side with the chants of 'Manchester la la, la' prominent. Some difference in atmosphere to the previous gig i'd seen them at Wembley Arena, certainly on a par with Finsbury Park '87. Freezing cold outside, Barney saunters on in his white t-shirt and knee length shorts. Green laser beams flashed above our heads as Touched got things underway. Ceremony, Vanishing Point, BLT and True Faith (before the sacrilege) Temptation, TPK and the last ever airing of AOC were highlights of a memorable gig. Happy Mondays and ACR were on the bill also. All this for the princely sum of £8.50!

WEMBLEY 87 gets it for me , just for the double encoure of blue monday love will tear us apart and sister ray, RoCkeT sent me a cassete of the gig which i can only play in the garage which is kinda ironic,, MANC98 was enjoyable, and 88 was rocking good, didt realise until now that id seen the first live performance of age of consent and the last,, xmas with bad loo this year wehey

Exactly same memories in parts for me too.The singing of Manchester,the lighting,Barneys gear.Didn't realise about AOC.Was almosts side on to the stage and saw most of what was happening there from very close quarters.Went with my younger bro but left him to get down to front.Lost my shoes at one point!Chaos...exciting and brilliant as this was my FIRST live gig by them.

Never have I had so much 'joyful abandon' as I had at the G-Mex gig in '88. Nothing matched that from then on.
