And Morrissey-esque haircut, come to think about it.

Isn't this a photo taken when they released "Touched"? I do think so.

This photo came out about six months before my first trip to the UK (summer of '88). Hooky's hair is relatively short, like all the Substance publicity shots, so this probably is for TBTHOG. I bought a bunch of little enamel pins for my own leather jacket because of this photo, as well as a military chaplain's cross for the left lapel.

The pic was taken in December 1987 whilst the band were in Dusseldorf. The band had an interview with NME and this picture was front cover.

Talking of Hookys fashion sense. I've just read Cider with Roadies by Stuart Marconie. In it he talks about doing the nme singles of the year review with a panel at some hotel. Hookys is late and the panel retire to the room to discuss the singles. As Marconie doesn't know what name Hooky will be using at the Hotel he tells the concierge that when some bloke dressed as a u-boat captain appears send him to their room. 10 mins later Hooky appears dressed in biker boots, black leatther kegs, white arran rollneck and full lenght black leathered coat!

Did the jacket belong to NME? or did Hooky just borrow it from Adam Clayton?

don't quite get this thing about it being unusual for him to be wearing a leather jacket . he often wore one.

I'd agree that it would be stranger to find a picture of Hooky without facial hair...

...but I have my suspicions that he was in fact BORN with facial hair and that it is impervious to shaving.

There was an argument on here a while back, some folks that barney and Hooky have only been wearing Adidas stuff since 2005 as some sort of product placement.

I argued that, product placement or not, I have seen photos of at least Sumner wearing Adidas shoes and an an Adidas T Shirt from the 1987/88 era.

Well, this is one of those photos that I was talking about!

Gotta say....I like Bernard's haircut and shirt here, he looks sharp. Hooky looks pretty cool too. I always liked the contrast between he and Barney's fashion sense.

Why Hook's? They were all leather-clad, as far as I remember back in 1984 during Thieves Like Us TV perfomrance in Germany. I think they got the idea from Depeche Mode, which originated itself among rockabilly rockers.
