Songs where Barney plays bass

Hi all

I am a long time lurker, first time poster here, looking for a bit of help with a fairly random question...

..on which songs does Barney play bass - other than Confusion. And does anyone know if he played bass on the Electronic albums (on the non sequenced songs) or if Johnny M did it?

Definitely "Sound of Music" and "Atrocity Exhibition" - there may be other JD songs but I can't remember off the top of my head

Heard somwhere about Murder also, if I'm not mistaken

Lee, is this not a popular misconception about Barney and TSOM? I've had the argument on here before that Hooky plays the bass on this. From memory (granted, it's usually awful) you can clearly see on HATYM that Barney is playing the guitar and Hooky is on the bass. Or have I got this the wrong way round

When Electronic played live at the Barrowlands in 1991 they had a session musician who played almost all of the basslines on a Roland SH101 mono synth worn 'guitar style' with the modulation grip attached. When they played 'Get The Message' however, the dude switched to a conventional bass.

I remember this as I had at that time just recently acquired an SH101 from a church organist for the princely sum of £50.

Wow! Thanks all so much for a spectacular response! Any others that anyone knows of? I've got hold of a Yamaha BB1200 that *apparently* used to belong to the man himself - am fairly sure it's the one used on the Confusion video but wondered what else it may have been used on...

He played certain parts on Twisted Tenderness (the album). The credits are in the cd booklet.

if you're ever going to sell that give me a shout, though I doubt it's the one barney played, that would have probably been hooky's and he never lets anything go, especially a BB1200, there's a story that a fan took one to hooky to get him to sign it but hooky wouldn't let him leave till he sold it to him!

"Breakdown", if i remember right. Don't think he played bass on any others.

As an aside, if the credits are accurate, TT is also the only Electronic album on which he played any guitar.

am i mistaken or doesn't he play bass on Dream Never End when it is done live? I could swear I saw video where Hooky is playing guitar on this one and Barney plays bass. Maybe I'm just confused....

Doesn't Hooky play a 6-string bass on Dreams Never End? Might be where your confusion comes from. As I remember it, Barney & Gillian are both playing guitars.

Isn't Barney sitting, playing bass on Sound of Music on HATYM? Going by memory, but he definitely plays bass on one of the tunes on the video

went back to the source of my confusion, Hooky plays 6 string bass on Dreams Never End. Barney and Gillian on guitar. Shitty video quality on my boot from 87.
