New Order's Peter Hook Announces Spoken-Word Tour — Forum Archive

Peter Hook has worn many hats in his long career: bassist for Joy Division/New Order, co-founder of Manchester night club The Hacienda, author, DJ. This spring, he’ll undertake a spoken-word tour with Howard Marks. Their An Evening of Unknown Pleasures kicks off in Birmingham in April (via Spinner).

The tour will find the duo mouthing off about their wild rock ‘n’ roll days together. Hook will bring along previously-unseen footage from his days with Joy Division, New Order and The Hacienda. “We’ve got some interesting stuff that was left out of the Joy Division documentary and I’ve also decided to play a few instrumentals I like the bass on – “The Happy One” and “Elegia,” for example," Hook said in a statement. "That gets me out of talking for a few minutes. I’m renowned for my music, not for my talking, so I’ll let some of my music do the talking for me.”

The shows will also feature a Q&A with audience members. “I don’t care what they say – It will be off the cuff and on the fly," says Hook.

Peter Hook is set to showcase previously-unseen Joy Division and New Order footage as part of a new show set to tour the UK in April.

Billed 'An Evening Of Unknown Pleasures', the nights will see Hook give talks on his past bands and Factory Records along with the footage, plus live music. Fans will be able to quiz the bassist as part of the evening.

Ex-drug smuggler and author Howard Marks will act as compere for the night.

Am going to the first night of the tour.Birmingham Glee Club next Sunday night, April 11th. The club is just a few yards down the street (Hurst St) from where New Order played at the Powerhouse, 1984.

went to the Birmingham Glee Club one tonight.It was alright, not brilliant but worth a night out.Place was packed out. not a big place, it's just a small comedy club with a few hundred capacity. started with cobbled together film of various New Order /JD footage but nothing unseen before from what i could see.Stuff used was things like snippets of the Brixton Academy 87 video. 15 minutes or so of various clips but people were starting to get impatient and started shouting for Hooky to come out and talk to them.Eventually Howard Marks came out and did a short intro, summat about this is my friend and i "Hook and Crook if you like" Hooky came on and before any chatting performed Elegia and The Happy One .Not an awful lot chatwise that hasn't been gone over before but a good chat nontheless.Hooky did say Ian Mculloch has asked him to do a World Cup song with The Bunnymen which is probably gonna happen.First half of the evening was about 45 minutes or so of Marks and Hooky talking with the 2 of them sharing a fair bit of banter.After the interval it was Hooky taking questions from the audience.Bit fcuked to remember if there was anything that original asked just stuff like what was his darkest moment? What did he think of the Stockholm Monsters? He did the Dark Starr track at the end with Marks on spoken vocals. Fair bit of memorabilia, gig tickets, Brazil top he wore at the final Buenos Aires gig? Brit Award from 1988 which does say True Face, not True Faith, NME godlike Genius award,

yeah i lost the track on that one.he was talking about it and that he wore it at the very last gig which seemed incorrect :scratch: didn't think he'd worn it in Argentina

don't worry about it. believe it or not we're kind of used to the fact people who are not from this region to mistake countries, cities, etc. i remember Elizabeth Taylor saying she loved Brazil and its capital Argentina. there're others who actually think South America or Latin America is one big country. so i'm not surprised Hooky thinks he played NO's last gig in Brazil, he might! :shrug:

btw, wearing Brazil's jersey in Argentina or the other way around could be one of the worst ideas you could have. whoever does that could get really hurt. or you have to be Tyson (Maradona gave him that jersey when he was here and he wore it in Brazil just a couple of days later) :lol:
