Jonathan Demme and Kathryn Bigelow and New Order

Both directed New Order videos (Perfect Kiss, TBTHOG) and as of last night both have won Best Director/Picture Oscars.

So, do any other pop bands have the honor of having TWO of their video directors go on to win an Academy award for best picture? Perhaps someone big like the Stones?

Interesting, but not really a big deal. Michael Shamburg chose great directors to begin with, and New Order got amazing videos out of them. But it's more like correlation, and less about causation. New Order is hardly the reason for the directors' successes.

I've always loved that Demme attempts to stick in New Order songs in his films. Married to the Mob opens with BLT, and Something Wild has a snippet of Temptation on a car radio as it goes by... I'm sure there are other instances of him using NO's work in his movies but my brain doesn't have enough coffee powering it yet.

Hum.. though he didn't technically did a video for New Order did he.

Though including a full part of Temptation into his movie Trainspotting could somewhat qualify.

Kathryn looks like a Kathryn.And certainly not unattractive. Sorry, i know we should be talking about her talent.Near Dark was a great film.

Francis Ford Coppola did Captain EO and Martin Scorsese did Bad. Both are considered as Michael Jackson's short films.

btw, Scorsese's movies never won the Oscar best film award. It is a shame.

I think it just reaffirms that New Order and the creative people behind them were more interested in being artistic rather than being commercial.
