Seems to be very fashionable at the moment - bands playing an entire album in full, track by track. Hooky's done it with Unknown Pleausre, Magazine have done it, Pixies have, Primal Scream and the Charlatans are both gonna do it. The Beeb had an entire documentary dedicated to Penthouse & Pavement last week and that's gonna get a live airing later this year. The Chemicals even played their entire album in full at the Roundhouse last week before it was released.

So, if New Order had to play one album in full, what's it gonna be?

Tindersticks did it too with all their albums many years ago BEFORE IT BECAME FASHIONABLE, and Suede did the same - I think both bands played all affiliated singles/b-sides from the period as well. Which, frankly, is the way to do it if you're gonna do it.

Personally I think its a rubbish idea, though it does at least keep the rapidly dying concept of the 'album' alive, so perhaps its no bad thing in some ways.

Bet they sell tonnes of copies of the album before the gig. I've bought copies of St Etienne Foxbase Alpha and Some Friendly in new repackaged format on the strength of these gigs.

Even though Technique is my favorite NO album,my vote would go to Low-life, only because it's the album where I first discovered their sound. Plus it has a lot of guitar driven songs that probably sound great live.

The Bunnymen & Public Enemy have also done full album gigs.

It would have been nice to have had a 21st Birthday gig of Technique this year. But we got Bad Lieutenant instead :nonono:

I voted for Movement, because thats the one where Martin fucked it up for them (except the first track) ... the songs are quite good according to the Taras Chevenko gig (on the 311 DVD).

I love to hear that one live.

Not strictly an "album" I know but they've done the whole of Substance live in the past haven't they? Some 80s gig in the US? Well Substance "back to front" anyway starting with Toothache... and of course the singles only.

I'd probably go for Low-life with PC&L being an extremely close second. Get Ready would be a good romp but I've heard those songs live far too much personally so it would be good to hear some material they've neglected for decades.

Movement would either be fantastic or a complete disaster at their current stage in the game, erm probably the latter. Ditto for Brotherhood. With the length of NO's albums (roughly 40-45 mins a piece) you could easily fit two into an evening otherwise charging 25 quid would be a bit much!

Of course, this ain't ever gonna happen :laugh:

The Delgados also did this ten years ago during a three night run at the ICA where they played every track off their first three albums, in order, over 3 nights.

I too think it's a bit of a rubbish idea and seems to be favoured by bands who have nothing new to sell but still have bills to pay. I saw Sonic Youth do 'Daydream Nation' and was a bit underwhelmed, despite loving the band and that album in particular.

As for this thread could we not just re-name it 'what's your favourite New Order album'?

I've been to a few of these - Wedding Present, OMD, Stooges, Saint Et, Bunnymen - and it's not as good as you think it might be. When you know what's coming up next one of the most exciting elements of a gig is lost.

If they ever return, I really hope they don't follow this cash-cow template.

Since they all love them guitars these days and I love the album, I went with Brotherhood. So many songs on it I'd love to hear live -- Weirdo, Broken Promise, just to name a few.

As it's been suggested here and I think Al's original post was a great discussion point, I've "cobbled together" my version of New Order playing Lowlife "Live". I chose Lowlife because it's currently got a third of the votes in the poll, no other reason.

The tracks are from various gigs, chosen mainly because the acoustics and sound quality of the various recordings were similar and it will hopefully sound pretty much like a real live performance. I have, however, adjusted levels, EQ, etc. slightly so that they "fit" better... but even then, some of my edits are pretty obvious :shrug:

I've stuck three extra tracks on the end - as an "Encore" - my choices, but all were being played live around that time.

AOC especially for Shug and Fac383 :viking:

None of the tracks are "commercially" available as far as I'm aware.

I'm sure someone else could do a better job, but I quite liked the idea of listening to various gigs from my favourite band on a Saturday :thumb:

At the time, the Power, Corruption, and Lies time would have been the most interesting. It's really hard to imagine the post 80s live band doing such a concept with much spirit, even if they were together still.

I voted for Movement, even though it's far from my favorite NO album. For one, I think it would sound good live (as opposed to Republic, or evfen some of the tracks on Technique). For another, I think it would be interesting to hear this over again, since it was there first album, and their sound changed so much after this. In particular, I'd like to hear "updated" Barney vocals for this album. I think he's much improved as a singer since that first album.

As the climate now matches the band climate then. Wouldn't you pay to see Barney harass Phil during young offender? I can also imagine Hooky would sit around and trudge about during half the album. Never did hear the "modern" live version of Ruined In A Day so that'd be something to look forward to.

yea this is a current fad.Cure also did it as well with a couple of early albums. ive got my tickets for bunnymen doing first two albums in liverpool. anyway on topic

its got to be LOWLIFE gentle 'time out' ones to drink yer beer and some lets 'jump about like fuck' ones its lowlife for me.in fact i am getting out now to imagine it :nod:
