Is there something wrong with the confusion mix on the `singles' collection?

Right, the 12" version, from 1983. On singles it sounds like there's no lengthy decay/release on the bass synth. It's very sttacto and cuts out almost as soon it's played.

Compared with the video version on youtube , on which the bass synth is nice and bouncy and not cut off at all.

I swear, I'm not imagining it!

It's an Edit of Arthur Baker's Rough Mix and not the "original" 7" Mix from '83. Lots of the edits on Singles were improvised from new sources and not the original 7" versions. Add to that the mastering was badly brickwalled; it's a bit of a let down that compilation and best avoided...

Nightmare, the only reason I bought it was to have the original confusion' and temptation'.

Is there anything wrong with temptation too?

Aside from being sonically brickwalled Temptation is the original 7" version. If you really want the original 7" of Confusion open up a Google and type the keywords: Recycle New Order. Click the link leading to a blogspot site and then do some reading.

Yeah, singles was a real missed opportunity. I'd have liked to see Murder on there, but the mix of 1963 that appears is really good

Agreed, I thought I could find this same mix with the New Order "remasters" but alas, it was not so. Do like the way the drums sound in it.
