For those who don't know - Granada Reports was our nightly local news programme that often lapsed into the surreal. Frank and Little Frank often featured in their daft pieces towards the end of the show.
He used to crop up all over the place, did Frank. A true legend of the Manchester scene in the 80s.

Thanks for the video Col. I've seen his dolls places and wondered where the character came from. Good to have footage to go with the figure.
First heard Frank perform on Piccadilly Radio in the 80s, where he had a short slot on the Mark Radcliffe show. It was like nothing else about at the time and my Mum was on order to tape his shows if I was out and missed an episode. As part of his show he introduced the Mrs Merton character and Radcliffe also played in his Oh Blimey Big band.
His gigs in the 80s were silly but celebratory and as much fun as anything else I experienced in that decade. Am very glad he made a come back in the last couple of years, saw him at the Buffalo Rooms in Islington just a couple of months back and he was the same as ever. Can't believe he's gone.

He also featured on James H. Reeve's late night phone-in show on Piccadilly, with a slot called "Frank's World" and the "Radio Timperley".
Is Little Frank going to be buried with him?! Blimey!
I too was gutted when I found out about this a couple of weeks ago. I was at work about to prepare another lecture when someone texted me the news. I was shocked to say the least. What is it with Manc legends and their tendency to die young when they're barely into their 50s? What is going on?
I actually - when I regained my composure and turned up five minutes late in front of the students - started the lecture with the cryptic words: "We lost a very dear Big Head yesterday" - and needless to say most of the people in the room didn't know what the hell I was going on about.....
The guy was a legend in his own strange little universe. There'll be no one quite like him again. Like his contemporary John Shuttleworth, he really is one of a kind.

How was it?
Very good. Tasteless and corny at times, but then so was Frank.
Highlights:
Badly Drawn Boy singing Timplerly Sunset ("Frank is in Paradise") and coming up with a bobbins magazine called Bobbins.
A fantastic animated film on the big screen.
The pilot episode of Frank's Celebrity Sleepover, featuring Mike Joyce - hilarious.
Charlie Chuck's breadshop joke.
Mr B Gentleman Rhymer (Google him - brilliant)
A substandard Elvis impersonator performing in front of the mummified corpse of Frank Sidebottom.
