Having now heard the studio version of Bicycle, I have to say that the live version posted above is much better. It's meatier and pumped up.
The studio version sounds more etheral, more Empire of the Son than New Order.
It's a grower noorder. When i first got it I listened to it once and didn't go back to it for a couple of weeks. Defineately needs time to appreciate. Stand-out track on the album is 'Plain Material'. And yeah, the first half of 'Bicycle' is a bit more 'spacey' than that live clip would suggest.
They're playing London 31st July at the Field Day Festival. When I saw them in Glasgow back in March, at their own headline gig, they played for precisely 26 minutes. They also both walked off stage and left 'the machines' to play out the last 2 minutes of the closing song which is something I remember NO always saying they fancied doing. Rock and indeed roll.

Yeah the Kitsune compilations are all solid gold. Brilliant label. The Memory Tapes album is called 'Seek Magic' and is available on iTunes and Amazon etc, got a full release in January of this year. Hibster was very lucky to have secured one of only 1000 released last year ;)
Interestingly they also record as 'Memory Cassette' and 'Weird Tapes' both of whom also have EPs on iTunes. The Memory Tapes blog is below with loads of free downloads.

'tis a 'he' apparently. And he's from Brroklyn, not New Jersey as previously stated. You should download the 'better pop music' compilation from iTunes Hibster. £2.49 for 28 tracks. Many of them are pish but there's a few knockouts.

I saw this thread title and clicked in to correct you, only to discover that it was exactly the bassline I was thinking of. The first half or so of the song is nothing to write home about, but that bassline is packed full of awesome and makes the song.
It's a good album, recommended.

Are you sure that's a six string? I don't know what Memory Tapes use for bass, but from that video it looks more like a 5 string to me (4 tuners on top, one on the bottom) but it's hard to say for sure since the video appears to be shot in Zapruder-vision (TM). (Or Palsy-vision.)
Actually, I looked at another video. It's an electric guitar, not a bass. (And 6 string, you're correct.)
Looks like a Fender Jaguar or Jazzmaster.
First time i heard it was convinced it was Mr. Hook on Bass from 3:00 on. I was still convinced for a while even after finding it wasn't.
The middle-eight guitar riff in Catch The Sun by Doves has always reminded me of Hooky's style even though it's not a bassline.
