FESTIVAL OF THE TENTH SUMMER feat. New Order and The Smiths

Thought I'd post this up on here. My fellow Salford City Radio DJ friend Stephen Doyle's got a show every Wednesday night at 9pm. This week he talks about FESTIVAL OF THE TENTH SUMMER,the first ever gig to be held at G-MEX (now MANCHESTER CENTRAL),which FACTORY put on as a celebration of 10 years of punk in Manchester,on 19th JULY 1986. Steve plays tracks from nearly everyone who played that night,but a treat at the end is three recordings he did on cassette,when parts of the gig were played by PICCADILLY 261 (now known as KEY 103). Features THE SMITHS - BIGMOUTH STRIKES AGAIN NEW ORDER & IAN MCCULLOCH - CEREMONY NEW ORDER - BIZARRE LOVE TRIANGLE (which was the only disappointment,it's brilliant but it's cut short for the news.FECK!) It was a fantastic gig! I remember when OMD...well Paul and Andy,and a tape machine called Winston played,and I didn't have an enclosure ticket to get front of stage,so I squeezed through this barrier.Which was great...till I wanted a pint and a piss! I borrowed this ticket of this random guy,"Can I borrow it to get back in with some drinks?" "By the way do u want me to get YOU any drinks?" "Yeah get me 2,here's the money" Four pints coming back to the enclosure,but these bouncers wouldn't let me in with them....so I had to neck all 4 pints in one to get back in!!

Yeahhhhh ..just listened to this concert in its entirety ...classic...loved the shout out for the Blackburn Yoof before B L T....good lad Hooky ...makes ya proud to be a Bloo!!!

I was there with a hangover from hell... and the Fall didn't help matters, I'd recovered by the time New Order came on though,

and at the end Hokky said " see you in 10 years", we're still waiting

Hey monty its sounds like it was a gr8 concert.wish i cld have been there.i love ian mcculloch 2.saw the bunnymen in norwich a few years ago and they were bloody fantastic1:-)

Great live sets! Didn't know there was a recording of it!!

Used to have the old cassette of the (i think) Piccadilly Radio broadcast of the gig.

Thanks for this - the passion in Bernards voice through face up makes you realise that todays live offerings are no where near as good!
