Just bought myself a new copy of WFTSC album as my old CD got scratched. It's on my desk in front of me and it's reminding me how dreadful the album cover is (plain white with not very stylish font in orange).

New Order and Peter Saville have often been praised for their cover art, but this is terrible.... and I'm not a fan of the artwork on the Republic cover either.

Does anyone else have any NO artwork they find repugnant?

p.s I'm not slagging Saville or NO off.... I actually like most of their stuff :-)

Apart from the cover of Republic, I think the rest are class.

I liked it at the time, so many covers are cluttered, I appreciated the periodic table like simplicity. I read that the cover was changed due to the tsunami, from the cover the single WFTSC had (asian looking woman in the water) to the white & orange one

Didn't like Get Ready artwork much, and the WFTSC artwork was simply lazy. Otherwize I like everything else.

The WFTSC album cover was a let down, as if inspiration had ran dry. And the single covers seemed to owe a little to the Republic covers (I loved the Republic covers BTW. People wondered what New Order would've looked like had they signed to a major label so Saville showed us in OTT fashion. It was just another in-joke).

That one wins by a country mile.

Not a fan of the "Fine Time" single cover. "Waiting for the Siren's Call" the album cover wasn't all that great. They should have used the "Waiting for the Siren's Call" single cover for the WFTSC album cover instead. It was a bit more flashier.

Yeah, least favorite artwork: album being WFTSC and single being Fine Time. Come on!!

Must agree.

If I understand correctly, the "Waiting for the Siren's Call" single cover was similar to the original album cover design, which they changed because of the tsunami... a bit silly in retrospect if true. Who would have even made a connection?

All the album designs are completely different, which I'm sure was intentional. Except maybe for the last minute WFTSC cover.

The Get Ready era and singles was particularly mind boggling, a red yellow or green strip against a white background. WTF was that all about?

Is it psuedo art for not giving a fuck?

Best response to this wins the Someone Like You 12"

Without stating the obvious GR, the one sleeve that I have wanted to like and can't quite manage to is the Procession/EGG 7". I've tried collecting different colours and putting them together, still doesn't work. I like the reverse side but the front? Centre bit OK and the diagonals but it's those flashes that come out to the sides.

WFTSC and Republic covers are pretty crap. - Strange with Republic as the Regret cover is ace and the best New Order cover over all.

Of the singles then all the WFTSC were bad, the cover for the WFTSC seemed to be done blurred with a blur preset in Photoshop. No effort at all.

That will be Fortunato Depero influence again!

WFTSC was pretty lame. Could have worked, mind you, if it had only the "No" logo on a digipak sleeve...

I've got a soft spot for WFTSC after the girl in the shop said to me "I've never heard of No before, what are they like?"

I do like the get ready stuff - atfer watching without a trace and noticing that they trace the history of the missing point on a line on a screen - not unlike the line on the get ready stuff - any connection? After all they had been missing and out of action for a while. Or is it just a line.

WFTSC is dreadful, Get Ready only marginally better.

Artwork for Shellshock always puzzled me, as did the similarities between BLT and State of the Nation

Similarities between BLT and State of the Nation? They were both singles from the time of Brotherhood, so Saville had some theme there. Not sure why it is puzzling. Singles generally followed the theme of the album artwork.

Album - WFTSC (too plain, reeks of laziness)

WFTSC cover would have been quite cool if it had been white on a black background...and if the album had been called Period. Especially with hindsight.

I hope they run with that one for the 7-song EP. I won't demand no fee.

That was the intention. Saville designed it around the Bold design.
