Your favourite NO live video release

Even though it's my favourite gig, I can't stand the Reading '98 DVD - it doesn't come anywhere near to capturing the joyous atmosphere of the day. (The Radio 1 broadcast does a much better job on this score). Even though it was nowhere near as much fun, the film of the Finsbury gig is an infinitely better document of the day.

I voted "Academy" 'cos, for all the shitty visual effects and inane interviews, you get a real sense of what New Order gig was like round that time. Having said that, "Taras..." is still the best historical document of the band, IMHO.

Don' think i've got a particular favourite NO live video to be honest . Guess i've got favourite bits off each one really - Temptation and EGG and a far superior (than the recorded version) Chosen Time off Taras, Your Silent Face and Crystal off Finsbury 5 11, Face Up and This Time Of Night off Pumped, TPK and BLT off Brixton 87...

PFD is sublime although I do have a softspot for Taras. Always thought Academy was below par and I haven't got round to buying Glasgow yet... saving up for the Hacienda EP.

Academy, best gig I've ever been to so it just takes me back. Video effects awful and they should have included Wilsons intro and TBTHOG.

Bootlegwise Glastonbury 1987, muddier than the above but an ace gig.

PFD for me, just because I love the sound from Hooky's bass at the end of TTON, and Barney saying turn that light out you cunt.

Fradders, agree with you, you'll never get anything like the same feeling from a DVD as the real thing, best thing would be to get a massive projection screen to show it on, go to a really busy park and put the speakers about half a mile away.

Glasgow for me, because I had ordered with it all the remasters and it was like NO fever for me. I do like the performances, and the interviews are semi informal.

I would say Brixton Academy in 87' if I really had to nail one down. That was classic New Order "energy wise" in my opinion. Literally blew out the speakers on my parent's big screen tv rocking out to it back in the day. I couldn't believe it, too funny.

Absolutely. Academy has got "it" for most of the gig. The essence of NO live, especially in the 1980s. Does anybody else know what I am talking about? PFD doesn't quite have it for most of the gig, except for "Sunrise" and "TTON" (from the coughs at the start, to the overrunning bass at the end, as mentioned above). That's what NO is about, to me at least.
