Barney tech interview in Future Music

Great interview with Barney in this month's Future Music - talks at length about New Order's equipment over the years, why 586 is called 586, and his attiude to technology generally.

He sounds on good form.

Im not laughing at you, I just thought it was amusing that you liked the article enough to mention it here but not enough to buy the mag.

And at that price Im not surprised.

Exciting! Tech interviews from Barney are my favorite kind of interviews from him, he seems at his best (and most interesting to listen to) when talking about songwriting, technology, synths, ect.

I'll have to pop nto my local WHSmith library! I used to uture music all the time but now just get sound on sound, I might make an exception in this case, thanks for the heads up

Without wanting to totally whet the appetite of fellow NOOLers, Barney's at his most fluent when discussing technology, and it shows in this interview.

I did actually pick it up to buy, but it has to have at least 2 decent articles to justify paying that price for a magazine, and 4 pages on Barney, some of which is on BL's live set up didn't justify a purchase during a time of financial austerity in the UK. Ha ha

But be under no illusion, it was Barney's tech-nous which made this band tick. He may not be able to remember all of his lyrics but his memory on what synths had the best filters, and programming systems etc etc is still well intact.

He also mentions the Stuart Price album, and say that he loves working with him, so, who knows, it could still happen

I remember reading something Wilson said to that effect. Bernard was the natural successor to Hannett or something. Praise indeed.

In some interview with Johnny Marr, if it was not in Future Music about 1995 or 1996 then Johnny was discussing and explaining his guitar playing and how he was also messing with samplers and some virtual guitar effects, most notably used on the reverse guitar solos on 'Forbidden City' from RTP.

In that interview Johnny praised Barney a lot in the and insisted that Barney had almost invented MIDI and was a tech genius.

so, look, i am gonna buy this. i even went out looking for the issue but it ain't out yet in the US, we get them like 4 weeks after you guys here.

so, yeah, what i am saying is, GET THE EFFIN SCANS UP!

Future Music doesn't have to worry one bit. I will still buy their $15 import mag here in the States in mid-September.

so, why is 586 called 586?

Bought it this week. Very interesting. Alot of 'tech' speak. Great pictures especially the one they took backstage at the Ritz in Manchester last year. I remember the photo being taken as I was loitering around backstage after the gig.
