Matt Everitt continues his First Time series by speaking to Bernard Sumner. The programme includes Bernard's recollections of the early Punk scene in Manchester, his still raw and painful memories of his friend Ian Curtis' suicide, and the genesis of New Order's Blue Monday.

Could someone please record this and put an MP3 up for folks outside the UK that can't get BBC on the net?

There is a podcast available for this show so presumably this will be one of them. Same old ground being trodden with regards to the story but also some new anecdotes. I have never heard Bernard get upset before while talking about Ian's suicide.

I didn't have any trouble playing it--maybe you should try it again, Vanishing Point. Great interview.

Good listen - asked which track Bernard would like to finish with out of all the music he's every written and he chooses.........Temptation - if he knew why it was so special he'd write another one like it!

Was asked why he didn't do a solo project , said he prefers being in a band for the social side, but give it 30 years and no doubt he'd be pissed off with bad loot.

Nice, it's working great for me. Anybody know how to save it as an MP3? Good interview, first time I've heard Bernard show emotion about Ian in an interview.

Fucking A, although, it still grates when they ask the Ian. C question.

Great piece, thanks to the poster. Quite difficult to hear the emotion in Bernards voice and not be affected. Felt quite sad after.

I agree, it's alright to watch films and form an opinion but that's the first time I have heard someone close to the situation express how they feel.

Cheers Old Blue, the second one works great for those of us not in the UK. My morning drive to work just became a lot more enjoyable :)

How refreshing it is to hear a radio broadcaster introduce a former Joy Division member without resorting to playing Love Will Tear Us Apart.

It is also refreshing to hear a top musician have good taste in music, as in my experience good musicians don't tend to have good taste in music!
