I'm not totally found of Sub-Culture, especially live. But then comes in that magic bassline and, in the end, all the song becomes amazing.
And the end of BLT... My only regret with BLT is that you can't have, at the same time, the robotic chorus from the 12" and the bass finale...
Subculture is really one of my favorite New Order songs, especially the lyrics: "I like walking in the park, when it gets late at night" really does it for me.
Klumpy - funny, I always had the same reservations about BLT. The Hooky bassline 'hook' was never as tragically missed off a record more so than on the 12" of BLT - if you can get hold of the 7" of BLT (although the robot is missing in action) Hooky's bassline comes in at the end - which is the precise moment you would want it to... which at least saves 1 version of the magical tune.
As for Subculture, well, is it fair that one man can pull some bits of nylon and produce such magic? - I think not.
Well, and what do you think of the Thieves Like Us's bass lines and the ones in Everything's Gone Green?
hello, i'm new to the forums, but have been listening to peter hook wring tears out of that bass guitar for donkey's years. considering that, i've got a really naive question: obviously you can live or die on the moments when hooky plays chords that you think he couldn't possibly 'reach' and then, of course, he does.
What's driving me mad is to to think of those NO songs that fade with hooky still pushing the device to its limits. but the one that has me doing catapults out of sheer frustration is the fading seconds of "sedona" from 'music for pleasure'. damn if there isn't another ten minutes of ecstasy/agony that was left on 'tape'. does anyone know of 'lost clips'/'extended outros' that are below the radar, beyond the 'usual' remixes, rarities, etc., etc.?
speaking of monaco, i have both albums, and besides "sedona" and "what have you done for me" are there any easily-missed NO-style basslines that anyone knows of off the top of their head? Thanks a lot for reading this far and any info is much appreciated.
Perhaps not necessarily on topic, I've found that after listening, and trying to figure out Hooky's bass lines and having finally learnt them, I appreciate them more. Ive found that true with The Cure as well.
If you can learn them by ear, as opposed to getting a tab, there is a greater sense of satisfaction at the end of the day.

Thank god someone else agrees with me about Sedona! I think WDYWFM is my favourite song to play on bass. Took me bloody ages to master that solo!
thanks everyone for the replies. major tarantino, yeah "sedona" is a masterpiece, and hooky's outro is equal to some of his best NO stuff. If only he was 'allowed' to play until he was fed up, people would be feeling emotions they didn't think they had. twist, thanks for suggesting I "gets some live New Order", which, stupidly, since buying one awful bootleg in '85, I stopped doing. I'm sure this question's been asked a thousand times here, but where would anyone suggest beginning to look for live stuff, particularly 'Low Life' onwards? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Speaking of NO-style basslines on Monaco songs, "Under The Stars" seems to have a Weirdo-esque feel to it & even rips off the final bass notes from Way Of Life. "Better than having Trevor Horn doing it for you!"(Hooky, commenting on bassline of AIIWIW sounding like the one from LWTUA)
