Bad Lieutenant - In The Ghetto

oooh. Just pressed listen. Sounds nothing like BL. Barney doing rougher vocals. Backing singers sound fantastic.
Probably shite though. Sounded a bit X-factor-ish.
But its for charidee..
Is that a cover of the Elvis track? If its the same, I doubt Bernard will be able to outdo Nick Cave's version

trust me.. he struggles.
Even Freddie Mcgregor wins...
BUT then, only thirty seconds of the track is available, so perhaps Matt Evans (or the bloke who plays bass whateverhisnameis) kicks in with a new killer bass-line, Jake hits new highs with an axe guitar solo, and the whole lot gets swamped with a powering bass-driven electronic groove moving listlessly into a 'wave your hands in the air' club classic. For the rest of the track. You never know.

It sounds like Bernard to me...maybe it's because he's singing in a lower key than normal, but still the vocal intonations are clearly Bernard. I doubt that's Jake singing the entire song.

You are nuts! That is totally Sumner.
It is sweet to hear him extending his vocal style through this cover, which could explain some confusion about who is singing it?
When I first heard Electronic, I thought his voice sounded very different as well. I almost remember thinking maybe Marr or someone else was singing at the time! Not as bad though as the time I played a 45rpm Cocteau Twins LP at 33rpm and thought they had changed to a male vocalist until my girlfriend at the time noticed I was an idiot. That relationship didn't last much after that.
This song is a sweet little ditty, probably worth hearing in full, and possibly the type of song that grows on you.
I like it how Barney sings the 'tto' in the 'Ghetto'!
Man this is unreal. Who are the backup singers?
First, Vietnam was revealed as the inspiration for Love Vigilantes.
Now, Barney covers the inspiration for Electronic's Gangster.
I prefer more mystery.
Elvis + New Order = that's heaven for me, for I equally love both performers. And, of course, the version is really cool.
Bad Lieutenant should record an entire album of Elvis covers in New Orleans with Fats Domino on the piano.

Damn... I guess you're right... confirmed right here in an interview: TAS Interview
You can hear the original version by Elvis Presley here. It is a pretty good song.

No probably about it ![]()
Dreadful song (even the original).
But fair play to them, as it's for charity.
Unmistakably Bernard. I have my doubts as to whether Dawn Zee is doing backup, though...
I like it--it's sweet like a dessert cheese.

Whatever... it didn't sound like him to me, okay? No need to be a jackass, you know.

Sure, but after having that image on a refrigerator magnet for a few years, it's become a bit old hat. Have you got any pics of Barney in a naval uniform? Please include a seaman joke.

Ermmm ..dont look like Hooky ..but i tell ya what...the guy on the left certainly looks like Phil!
Sky News had a piece this morning (5:50am) about this release. It showed Prince William meeting some of the musicians involved including Bad Lientenant (although it was pronounced Bad Leftenant - have I been saying it wrong all this time?) but Bernard was nowhere to be seen.
I finally heard the whole song by downloading it and it is a very good song, great cover song.

You're not going to provide soup for the vagrants like that, Linus.
Erm, not to be blunt but where the fuwk can you buy a physical CD copy of this? I've checked the site and it just seems to be download only 320kbps MP3 which isn't of much interest to me. Would much rather buy the CD and rip me own preference. Bizarrely this charidee album has had lots of nice promo in the press but aside from the virtual copy I can't find anywhere to buy the "CD".
Not on Amazon or Ebay either...
Answers on a postcard, pop pickers.

Download only as far as I'm aware.
I stand ready to be corrected ![]()
Oh well download it is. I don't mind so much as it is for charity.
Just funny they're advertising it with images of a CD/sleeve etc.
I suppose they're saving on overheads by not producing a physical format ![]()
Fair dos...

Zachery Starkey wrote: Wonder why Bernard and Steve didn't go? Maybe they aren't that fond of the royal family...
Bernard could've been working on the converse track, as for Steve I have no idea.
A good friend of mine hung out with New Order for a few hours back in 1987, had quite a few long conversations with them regarding politics......
He said they were all lefties and that Steve in particular was for nuclear disarmament.
Just an interesting story..
I've always known that about them, but some loyalist/unionist/orange type loon on here always claims they are the total opposite.
